I'm firmly in the 'it'll all blow over' camp. Compared to what's happened in Sumo in Japan over the last couple of years (including a leading coach currently doing a seven stretch for the negligent manslaughter of a young wrestler in his stable) this is chicken feed, and Sumo's recovered and now chugging along nicely.

I don't have an issue with Melbourne. I am indifferent to their existence. However, to think Billy Slater will be gutted makes me feel a bit warm inside. I also still hope he gets smashed in every game he plays.

It made front, full page back and two inside back pages in the West Australian. I've never seen RL get that much publicity here! Just a shame it was a negative story and not the readmission of the Reds!

philis gould came up with a reasonable idea earlier....he basically said that if you get the melbourne storm back inline with the $4.1million salary cap by getting rid of some players then they should be allowed to compete for competition points again....or else if they carry on playing with the same "illegal" team then every team the storm beat would be able to lodge a complaint...

so by getting rid of 2 of inglis,slater,smith & cronk should straighten out the situation cap-wise

had the nrl not punished them so badly they wouldnt have survived imo

other RL fans wouldve always labelled them as cheaters and tainted

these harsh penalties will get them a lot of sympathy

aussie league fans dont hold grudges.

imo i think many other nrl clubs are cheating the cap

rumours of a star player at one club staying rent free in a unit owned by a director of the club and stuff like that

the nrl only gets the tip of the iceberg

if clubs didnt pay extra wed lose even more players to SL, union and AFL

the problem will be solved when our next tv deal sees the salary cap rise to $6 million

clubs will have enough money to keep their players and stay within the cap

if clubs are able to keep their players how will that go with the claim that the salary cap evens out the comp??

so basically the players will be playing for nothing only their pay packet no points the fans will have no incentive to pay money to turn up as they can't win. and lets face it would the oppopsition fans pay to go to a game you were 100% assured the points for? so early in the season this could be VERY costly for melbourne

no, opposing teams will still have to win to get the points. Very stupid decision by the NRL, means this whole sorry saga is going to drag on week after week.

They should have wiped off any points so far, made them get under the salary cap from now and let them continue with the season, if they wanted to add more punishment they could have made them start next season on minus points.

All the NRL has done has made sure the Storm's move into a brilliant stadium will be an abysmal failure, at least for this year.
