Being realistic is not scaremongering.
When the BBC leads with a feature about talking to your loved ones about dying is that scaremongering or being pragmatic.'"
Read what he said - He was talking about people being left to ‘live or die’ because the NHS refuse to admit them. The reality so far is that only two small hospitals have reported ‘critical incidents’ due to running out of beds and one of those has now stood down that critical incident. We are still someway off running out of beds and ventilators and the NHS can manage if people abide by current restrictions. Scaremongering.

| Quote ="Steph Curry"I don’t want to give too much away on a public forum but certain people in the UK are being left to either live or die whilst not being allowed to be admitted to hospital. You can say I’m talking rubbish but I know for a fact it’s official guidance from the nhs due to my job. It’s scary!'"
Some of you on here know me, and I hope you know when I’m being serious. A close family member works for a government department that receives, analyses, and deals with financial information within the Uk. His wife is a hospital consultant. He hinted to me days ago what was likely to come re, the government financial planning, and virus outbreak. Last night he told me his wife was being trained for intubation those who arrive at ICU, and that 7 Italian doctors have already died working in Italian hospitals, so he is understandably concerned.
I’m sure we all have felt that things have changed this past couple of weeks, something feels different, and it’s worrying.
Regardless of our political choices, this government has lots of information that We don’t, and acting in our and the country’s best interests. I think we should all follow their instructions, re social gathering, stockpiling, and consideration for others. This Is a sort of war, and the NHS is the front line. We all need to support them and help them by looking after ourselves staying healthy.
I awoke early this morning, thinking about those family members, if I didn’t take this virus outbreak seriously enough before then, well I do now.
Stay safe everyone.
The NHS, workers are putting their lives on the line to save everyone, unfortunately not everyone can be saved.

So far being the operative words. Maybe you can explain why the current trajectory of the virus will result in less of an impact on our health service than it is doing on Italy's, given we've imposed fewer restrictions on our population and those we have imposed have been put in place more slowly in terms of where the respective numbers of cases are/were? No scaremongering on my part, I'm merely curious how you're of the opinion quoted.

Doctors in Italy and Spain are already doing that. Drs in Italy are taking respirators of sick people to give to people who are sick because they have a better prognosis.
We know that the Government are planning to issue advice to drs on issues around co morbidity and when the beds are full this will tell them who they will leave to die.
If you are over 70 with diabetes and COPD they will not put you on a ventilator if there is 30 year old who needs the ventilator as well. Drs in this country make those decisions every day in hospitals. Do we give a heart transplant to the 18 year old girl or the 55 year old obese man.
Just do. The maths
Britain’s chief medical officer has said that “if we have less than 20,000 DEATHS THAT WILL BE A GOOD RESULT”
The mortality rate is 1% best estimate
20% need medical treatment in hospital.
10% need ICU
So if the government chief medical officer is right
20,000 minimum dead
200,000 in ICUs
400,000 in hospital
We only have 4 to 5,000 ventilators hence 190,000 might not get a ventilator .
That is why social distancing and isolation is important
It is that serious enough.

| There's a time and place for trying to score 'brownie points' over one another., this isn't one of them. Some folk would still got to a RL game if they could, and others wouldn't until the virus had virtually disappeared. I'm bored 'out of my tree' in the evenings & weekends, but it is what it is right now. Am I going visiting My 80 years old Mum tomorrow, not a chance. If I was young, and my Mum was only in her 40's, maybe I would have done so. Lets just do as we are being told to for the next few weeks and see what happens. Although obviously it's going to be a few months before we can have some normality in this country.

TBH anyone claiming that this is being blown out of all proportion, won't accept what is being written in the press, thinks (almost) all the governments of the world are overreacting, that the medics being interviewed about the situation in Italy are lying needs treating with either contempt or pity.
Then again maybe he's the absolute world expect on viral diseases and their spread but I doubt it.

Which flies in the face of social distancing to the extreme, surely?
Germany has banned "groups" of more than 2, but the RFL are suggesting "groups" of 14 (a scrum), the PL are talking about resuming for TV before the situation is over.

| The real problem is how to restart the league. The UK may choose to go ahead with game behind closed doors or normal support in the next 4 weeks, but if France or more likely Canada is still in severe lockdown, we can't, adding to a longer delay. I realise that this is a unique situation, but this highlights a real issue with having non-UK teams in the league. We might be ready to get going and get revenue into the game but might be blocked by several more weeks.

| In the extremely unlikely event that games are able to be played in the UK at some point relatively soon, but France and Canada have restrictions, then Catalans and Toronto will have to just play their "home" games over here. I'm booked for Toronto away in July and don't for one second expect to be going, and nor do I really expect any professional rugby league game to be played in 2020. At least not with a crowd. The only way I see it as even marginally possible is if there's a significantly shortened season played out much later in the year, that then enables a top four (1 V 4, 2 V 3, Grand Final) play off series to be held once crowds are able to return.
No Challenge Cup games or internationals.

Not sure why you think that this government and it will be them and not SL that decide when to lift restrictions, why you think we might be ready before France or Canada.

France may be ready before us, but Canada probably after us.
The point is, having a single league split across multiple countries potentially adds further delay/complication as opposed to all members being from the same country. How would all the other clubs feel if 11 clubs are ready to get going but can't for several more weeks just because one club is based in a country still quarantined?
