| yes Salford could win Super League in 5-10 years IF Koukash has the patience to stay the course and they recruit wisely. Cannot see it myself. I think Clarke is simply increasing the pressure of expectation on poor old Nobby and raising Koukash's hopes unrealistically...but time will tell...this years target should be top 6 and then push on from there.

| Quote ="John Gilbert Reds"Fancy a wager on that?
Having been party to the many discussions which Marwan Koukash has held regarding Salford, I am more than confident we'll win Super League within the next 3-5 years. Look at the squad he has assembled in less than 12 months, it's easily top 8 quality. In many ways we were limited to which players were available for 2014 and despite paying transfer fees for Gareth Hock, Rangi Chase, Tim Smith and Harrison Hansen further quality will be added as players contracts expire in 2014, 2015 and beyond.
Both Koukash and Noble have been open about how recruitment for 2015 is already in motion and the calibre of players coming in is only going to improve as the realisation hits (if it hasnt already) that we mean business and are ready to achieve something major.
I cant tell you how different the club is from the one I supported 12 months ago, it really is like a new entity entirely. Where as previously we were training at Leigh Sports Village, we now have a dedicated state of the art training facility/gym within the stadium complete with a players lounge, Richard Hunwicks (formerly of Leeds Rhinos) has come on board as head of strength and conditioning, we have appointed Rob Artingstall (formerly of Sale Sharks) as physio and Sarah O'Neil is our lead soft tissue specialist. All these appointments and changes off the field have been as impressive as the ones on it.
I'm looking forward to little old Salford rattling a few cages in the forthcoming season and beyond.'"
That's a cool story bro...has Dr Marwan given any targets, KPI's regarding what he expects fans wise to bankroll this "redvolution"? I ask because even if he doubles last years average attendances, he will still need to fork out around 750-800k a year to cover the shortfall. A couple of years of that, even with a couple of play-off games (but I very much doubt a home one) will soon focus his mind...and his wallet.
Don't get me wrong, a few more like him in the game would be brilliant, but Rome wasn't built in a day (but it did burn down that quickly)

If you asked Marwan Koukash what attendances he expects he'd tell you sell outs every week. Realistically we should be aiming for 8,000 averages although this will take a couple of years of reasonable league finishes and cup runs to achieve. The absolute minimum for this season should 5,000.
I'd love to see your calculations to Marwan's 750-800k shortfall though, I assume it includes all major revenue streams such as club/player sponsorships, hospitality, merchandise sales etc?

| Salford will not win SL within 5 years. That's fantasy land. Look how long it's taken Warrington and Huddersfield to make the jump from mid to top of the table and neither have won it yet.
They should be aiming to become a regular top 6 team in 5 years. Whilst Salford have lots of money now they can still only spend the salary cap, the same as at least 6 or 7 other teams. Whilst spending off the field on training facilities/staff etc is vital and will make a difference, again 5 or 6 other clubs are doing the same. And those 5 or 6 clubs have the added benefit of recent success, bigger crowds, and better youth players.
Some Salford fans are massively overestimating the strength of their current squad and massively underestimating the difficulty of breaking into the top group of clubs.

But Paul Cullen built most of the team that eventually broke through under Smith. I'm very happy with Warrington's record since 2009 but the fact remains that we still haven't won SL. Maybe we had some bad luck with injuries in last year's final but that just proves how damn difficult it is to become champions.

Quote ="John Gilbert Reds"The absolute minimum for this season should 5,000. '" ....and do we have a definitive number on the season ticket sales to date? I've seen estimates of 9k for the opener v Wakefield, but after that? How long until we see the club going down the groupon route and discounting heavily? You have a pretty kind opening few weeks to the season, so a good start will help. I agree though, less than 5k and the Good Dr might not be best pleased!

They are similar to those accepted by the RFL as regards Bradford's business plan.....worked out on a beer mat and not worth the paper they are written on.....but if you come in at 5k this year, other SL clubs turning over 4 million a year have stated that 10k is the break even figure........I suspect the good Dr will look to OK's investment/loan/whatever it was of 900k last year at Bradford....and they had an 8,500 average.
Still, the good spin doctor is tweeting his little heart out and long may his involvement in RL continue!

Bloody ell mate you can't half see the jealousy And resentment in your posts, a lot of you are underestimating the Salford public, don't forget all those clubs like Bradford Wigan Leeds Wire Hull saints have all had recent success so fans from those areas have a attractive proposition and a wanting to see their team (who very likely) can get to a final or win one again that's what gets them off their backsides to go.
At Salford the public have seen worse than s*it for over 25/30 years how the hell can anybody blame fans for not going, if they see a team worth watching they'll go and watch simple as that. Instead of trying to pick the Salford club apart in a childish jelous way, it would be better if people just kept quiet and wished them luck.
Everybody knows eventually Salford will do something, with a chairman with a personal wealth of £600million he's by far the richest guy in rugby league and he's not afraid to spend it, which is good for the game, and not a lot of people will realise but they will, that Marwan is the man that eventually will drag rugby league up by the scruff of its neck and finally make sure it is run and promoted in the correct way.

| As a Salfordian who remembers the days BEFORE Watkins, Charlton etc., I am happy to go along with the ride.
13 months ago, I did not have a club that could stay in Super League. Today, I have a club that is challenging for the play-offs.
In the past, I have seen a fine crop of youngsters flourish under Hunte but wondered how many we could keep. now I know they will want to stay as we are increasingly being seen as having potential to be very successful: players want to be part of that.
Finally, I want a chairman who aims high, who pushes us into the limelight. Many of you attend the Magic weekend and/or the Grand final and then go home. You enjoy the occasion and the buzz. You see RL as important.
The Rugby league fans who live in the conurbation have 24 hours of football talk and media. They get four/five /six pages in the MEN. We live with a column or two every few days: often less than Sale gets. The good doctor is making inroads into that.

Better for whom? This thread is predicting great things for the reds and nobody wishes then anything but all the luck in the world, but by heck, you aren't half going to look ing daft once you get to playing the top tier teams.....the Likes of Wire and Wigan will shred you.

As I said, the more of him in the game the better, but this isn't soccer. There's a cap...he wont be able to buy success.....and once again, good luck for the season, I suspect that once you've slipped out of the challenge cup and the easy games in SL dry up, you're going to need it.
I predict Salford will finish higher than 2013......

Didn't mean that, meant how can they be challenging for the play offs when the season hasn't started?
They should be challenging, but 2/3 injuries to their main players and they is a chance they won't challenge for the play offs, like a few clubs.

| Wigan were serial underachievers under Nobby, he even couldn't make a real challenge with Barrett in the ranks, yet by adding Deacon they became champs under Madge. Dr K looks seems to have an umbilical cord with Nobby, describing him as his "best mate". Difficult decisions ahead.
