I actually thought the player (Abblett in think) behind Leuluai who punched Fox when he was on the floor was the worst offender and should get a ban, he had no need to throw a punch into Fox's face and cannot claim he was defending Leuluai who had already given Fox a beating!

I thought Ganson handled it quite well - the main problem though, is that players have been heavily penalised for similar offences throughout the season so once again, a lack of consistency in how incidents like this are dealt with.

Ablett is the player who most deserves censure - he ran in and dropped a cheap shot on Foxy when the scuffle was all but done.

For me the two main protagonists were as bad as each other but essentially there was nothing in it. Leuluai put a hit on Fox (unsure if he swung a punch in the initial 'flying tackle'). Fox swung his arms/elbows around because he didn't like the rough treatment- not sure if he made contact. Leuluai didn't like Foxes flailing arms and started punching, Fox replied in kind and then that house Ablett runs in and punches an already outclassed Fox.

And again, the whining about Leeds players not getting carded or banned starts up again. From the same lot who though Paul Wood shouldn't have been sent off in the cup final, or that Briers shouldn't have got 10 minutes for a tackle in the air, or that various players throughout the season shouldn't have gotten sent off for tackling Rob Burrow around the head.

Let's not even get started on Amor leading into a tackle with the elbow last night.

Should the time of the match be taken into account when punishing? Imo no, but Ganson clearly disagrees.

What is the degree of leniency given to the aggressor in these situations given the actions of the player being tackled? In a similar circumstance brought up here, McIlorum (wrongly, but understandably) thought he was being attacked by Elima due to repeated contact from Elima's elbow trying to release himself from the tackle, 'retaliates', red card. Right decision. Leuluai is struck by Fox (unclear if it was a retaliation from the headshot on the ground or just excessive in removing the tackler), puts in a punch on a vulnerable player, only a penalty. Imo, wrong decision.

FWIW Ablett started a fight with Luke O'Donnell last week before LoD got sent off in error.

I'd certainly hope the RFL take a look at their efforts on Fox from last night.

As I said, no real drama with that incident - Foxy held his own against a player several weight divisions above him and they laughed about it afterwards; there are questions about consistency though - whether you prefer the Ganson or the Child approach to these matters, there should be a straightforward response to incidents of striking. Ganson knew full well who was the aggressor but chose to be lenient because of the time left on the clock - he can be clearly heard saying as much to the players. Wouldn't have mattered to us, but might to Catalans.

My gripe is with Ablett - I hate that kind of cheap-shottery; WTW are apparently the only team in SL not to have received either a yellow or red card this season - I'd have happily foregone that accolade to see someone run in and level Ablett in response.

Wakefield have that record solely because the ref at their home fixture against us decided that not only was a tackle into burrows eyes not a sin binning offense, but going into that tackle fists up, and driving them straight into Burrow's face as he ran the ball in, didn't merit anything more either, despite the fact the VR saw it.

Michael McIlorm, Chris Tuson, Shaun Maggenis, Gareth Hock and Lee Radford are but a few of the players sent off for doing exactly the same as Kylie Leuluai did. I don't agree that it should be a sending off, a sin bin would be better punishment for fighting, but based on what has happened previously he should have gone. Given his "Puletua Tackle" in the cup final it makes you wonder what he has to do to get sent off.

If he ripped a small child in the front row in half, he'd probably get a sin bin.

He'll have his rest but can't see Leeds having another game in the Playoffs without him. He is needed in France if you are to beat their pack.

Hock got 2 games after MM and Mossop could've as well but entered an early guilty plea and got 1 game.

You should pack in RL and go watch soccer, where a stroke on the cheek with a bent little finger will get you sent off just the same as a full blooded left hook to the chin. That's the idiocy you get when you completely remove any discretion from a referee. Absurdity worthy of Alice in Wonderland.

I disagree, there should be consistency, it should not be down to an individual referees discretion (which seems currently the case) It should be a sin bin/sending off across the board, not as last night where the interpretation was there is only 1:30 left so lets forget it.

i can understand Wigans fans frustration. The MM incident v.s Bradford was pretty similar, Elima was trying to shrug MM off him to play the ball and MM just cracked Elima in the face (I still believe if Elima had thrown one back MM wouldn't have been sent off in that game)

LeuLai was pretty lucky. For me the sin bin needs to used more often in these situations.
