| you think it would dispute that there is a finite amount of RL you can possibly watch? On the basis i dispute you would simply give up on the game at a pro level because your team changed its name?

| The concept that you cannot seem to grasp is that my team would not simply change its name!! It would be 'incorporated' into a larger concern, and in doing so would lose its individuality and its identity. The 'new' team might be more succesful, but it wouldn't be 'my' team. If success were the only yard-stick for support I'd be a Rhino or some other teams fan. I don't know who you follow, but would you switch allegiance on the basis of your team success?

| i wouldnt on the basis of its success, however if my club was struggling and merged to be part of another club which was stronger, yes i would go watch them.
I enjoy watching RL, i enjoy it more at Pro level, I would still enjoy it if my team was called Leeds Rhinos, or the West Yorkshire terriers or something else.

So say, if Leeds got merged but then someone decided - like us, that they couldn't support the newly merged team and decided to create another side at a lower-league level called Leeds Rhinos - which would you support?
Because I can GUARANTEE that is what would happen. If Cas and Wakey merged, fans would work together to create a newly born club called Castleford Tigers/Wakefield Trinity. and go watch them.

Yes the RFL would let 2 new Championship 1 teams in.
It doesn't have to be Tigers & Wildcats, you can't stop a team being called Castleford RLFC & Wakefield Trinity.

Yes you can, Castleford RLFC was the name of the tigers before they were called the tigers, unless they were idiots they will have kept the rights to that name. Similarly with Trinity.
And why do you suppose the RFL would let 2 new clubs in the Championships whose sole reason for existence was to take away from one of their member clubs?

Are you saying Cas and Wakefield are? I don't see you calling for Leeds/Bradford/Huddersfield all to merge and both Hull sides to merge and Wigan/Salford/Saints to merge and Widnes/Warrington to merge. That doesn't fit your 'agenda' does it, Smokey?

Yes i do think that Wakefield and Castleford are in competition for fans.
And Leeds, Bradford, Huddersfield, Hull, Wigan, Saints, and Warrington are all superior clubs to Castleford and Wakefield.

| But they're in direct competition for fans. "Superior" in what way? I'd hazard a guess that with a new stadium we'd be above Bradford and competing with the likes of Huddersfield in many ways.

Yeah they are, but there are over a million people in Leeds and Bradford. Which according to your logic regarding the City of Wakefield is about 7 times more than are available to Castleford and Wakefield. Its much easier to support two teams out of a million people than about 150k. As history has shown.
And in what way arent Bradford more superior? in SL they have achieved more, have more fans, a better stadium, won more, have more, better youth products.

| But people come from far and wide so realistically, we could be having fans from Castleford, Pontefract, Leeds, Wakefield, Knottingley, Ferrybridge, Selby, etc etc. This is the point we are trying to get across to you but you don't seem to be listening.
As for Bradford, historically, they are a bigger club and in some respects they still are. However, we've finished above them twice in the last two season and our own youngsters are beginning to make their own mark. I certainly don't think you can distinguish between the quality of youngsters. Amounts, maybe. I did say "in a new stadium" we WOULD be above Bradford. That is my opinion also.
Anyway, this is bye-the-bye and you're convincing no one bar yourself that a merger between Castleford and Wakefield would be successful or beneficial to the game.

And what you seem to be not understanding is that IF people will come from pontefract, Leeds, Wakefield, Knottingley, Ferrybridge, Selby, who have no affiliation with Castleford, will come see castleford and build an affiliation with them, then they will also come to watch a team which isnt Castleford and build an affiliation. In fact it would be easier for a club not called Castleford to have people from Wakefield, Knottingley, Ferrybridge, Selby etc etc build an affiliation as their affiliation would be with a club which represents a larger area, rather than one which represents a small town in Wakefield.
Why will people from outside Castleford who have no affiliation with the town other than the club be bothered by a name change, and why would people from outside Castleford with no affiliation to the club or the town only be able to build that affiliation with a town smaller than Morley?

are you high? Cas youngsters are nowhere near the level of Bradfords, and yes they are historically and currently a bigger club, with more success. In what ways are they not superior?

Are you on the funny fags?
Bradford's juniors are nowhere near the level of the ones Cas have, could Bradford player 5 of their current under 20s against Huddersfield and win? doubt it.
Actually, in the last 10 years, how many players of note have come through Bradford's system? Langley?

You mean players like Donaldson, Addy, Whitehead, Finigan, Olbison? Is there a reason we are only counting Langley and ignoring the likes Kopczak, Pryce, Reardon, Cook, Atkins, Ferris, Bridge, Parker, Halley? We go back a couple of years further and see Leon Pryce, Fielden, and Peacock.
But wait, in the last ten years who have Bradford brought through? I mean the definitely havent brought through any World Class forwards have they, just backs i think. Definitely no world class forwards.

Yeah, its definitely the youngsters fault. I mean if they were any good they Bradford would have easily qualified for the play-offs. That wouldnt be utterly ridiculous at all. And i mean its not like Shenton and Westerman played in a Cas team so poor they got relegated is it?

Oh and btw, I live near selby and I would have absolutley no affiliation with a club that wasn't called Castleford. Reading your arguments on this thread has made my blood boil so much I couldn't refrain from posting any longer.

Your probably right that the rfl would try to stop new teams using them names as it would be rather embarressing for the rfl when two championship one teams beat the attendance of a sl club that was supposed to replace them.

I noticed that, i do like it when smokey tries to make a point with a 'fact' that is wrong
I know quite a few fans of cas from the selby area that feel exactly the same, there are lots of family ties between cas and selby relating to the pits.
I think at this point we all have to realise smokey just wants to argue for the sake of it or he doesnt grasp the simple concept that no merged team could possibly work without fan support and the people of cas and wakey dont want it and never will. Either way he's not worth peoples time.

I think you'll find Bradfords "recent" history is bigger than Wakefield and Castleford but Rugby has been played for longer than SuperLeague has been around. Go ask you dad.
........good for Bradford for achieving that.....but you are being a bit fast and free with your "facts"!
