Perhaps listen to what Chris Chester says in his post match interview...where he says Cas were too quick, couldn't handle Junior Moors, called us Classy Cas, stated that Topou and Arundel were on for most of the first 40 where the damage was done , blamed his side for poor last tackle options and kicking out on the full....overall he was gracious and accurate.

And he was right; Cas have outplayed much better teams than Wakey this season and barring some kind of Wigan-esque injury crisis, will continue to do so. They were superior in every dept yesterday and thoroughly deserved the win.

FWIW - I don't see Cas doing anything especially grubby or dubious; they're tough and physical and have some wily campaigners who'll take every advantage they can - but they're no Wigan.

It's less easy to be gracious in defeat when opposition fans are not gracious in victory - but I'll do it anyway, because I like to occupy the moral high ground.

I just thought Cas played the game intelligently and Roberts in particular was putting people in gaps all over the place.

The second quarter when Cas went off on one was when the game was lost, couldnt handle the strong running and footwork of the Cas forwards.

That said, I'm not too disappointed - thought we could have got closer than that but in reality, this Cas team is head and shoulders better than us atm. Thought we did well to win the 2nd half and could have got closer still but a few 50/50 calls against at crucial times meant it wasn't to be.

Do you think Chester got it wrong with Finn not either starting or coming on earlier ? Credit to Wakefield for showing grit in the second half, they could quite easily have capitulated ala Leeds , Huddersfield at Cas this season but they played with a decent structure in the second half, again when Finn was on . There is a thread on the Trin board if it ain't broke don't fix it, so that's why I was surprised to see Finn on the bench for so long because i think he has been quality in the last 3 weeks or so. The bar steward also killed my bet of handicap tie with a touchline conversion

Cas are taking on Leeds mantle as the ' Quarterback Kings ' , lost count of the forwards thrown before they were pulled for one , but I suppose if you play the game fast enough , you'll get away with it

It was a concern of mine prior to the game. Finn, although getting on a bit and painfully slow, is the only player we have who can control a game. He starts everytime for me. Miller is a headless chicken and Williams is still finding his feet. In the games they've played together Trinity have struggled to score points and we have poor last tackle plays, gifting teams with 7 tackle sets.

I didn't see the incident but "kicking" also applies to playing the ball. Any attacking player stood infront of the PTB can't get involved until after the next PTB.

It was the correct call, but it's nothing to do with a kick.
You can't be in front of the ptb and then get involved in the play. The last time it happened was a Bradford v Leeds game back when we were in SL. Leeds scored a try but the build up involved Brent Webb, who was in front of the ptb when the move started. The ref went to the video ref, it was reviewed and disallowed for this reason.
They're as rare as hen's teeth, but it was the correct decision.

Thanks. This makes sense, not so much in this case but imagine a situation where a player is off side 15 metres in front of the ptb. The dummy half makes a break, runs
the 15 metres and passes to the offside player, clearly gaining an unfair advantage. So, yes, good rule. But I can't see any reference to it in the laws of the game.

This is how any player can be brought back onside:

As you can see, a player can be brought back onside when one of his own team members runs in front of him with ball in hand (c), and downtown requires a kicker, if it didn't require a kicker then the rules wouldn't specifically state kicker.

Had the Wakey player gone for a chip through then Downtown would have applied, but as he ran past the player and still had ball in hand then he brought that player into play.

Teams tend not to play in front of the ball because the player would be caught offside had possession changed or a kick goes through, but it's perfectly legal to do so

If downtown applied to simply passing to a player who hadn't retreated to the last PTB then almost every prop who is brought into play on the 2nd/3rd play would be pulled up for downtown as they are almost always in an offside position and wait for the ball player to pass in front of them to bring them into play

What are you on about? In your example those props have to wait until the next PTB to receive a pass. Offside and downtown are not the same rule.

They can receive the ball as soon as the ballplayer passes in front of them which plays them onside.

Downtown is a rule used hold back offside players from charging down an opposing player who is catching a kick return. They have to wait until the kicked ball passes in front of them to play them onside before they can chase the ball down which gives the player catching the kick a chance and stops them being circled by offside players. Please explain how that is in any way relevant to a ball which was passed from one player to another on the same team and wasn't kicked. Wrong decision to call for a downtown
