Just for you Mr Wheels (even though I suspect your fishing) I will explain this only once so listen carefully...
A shared ground is not an option because you will never, ever get either team to agree on a location. Wakey don't want to play in Cas and Cas don't want to play in Wakey, simples.
If either Cas or Wakey are taken out of the community they represent they will probably cease to attract the support of the community. You would quickly lose your fans and business support from the community you represent. In a word, for the team that relocates it's curtains.
With other teams that are knocking on the door, massive pressure would be placed on the relocated team to be absorbed as a merger. Of course the merger would most probably be along the lines of the Gateshead and Sheffield fiasco.
The above is not paranoia, it's very realistic scenario of a shared ground. Despite the rivalry of both sets of supporters the very existence of each team as SL clubs belongs on the fact that both teams get a new ground.
If the worst come to the worst and we did share a ground, I would bet the VT forum would be bursting with 100 page threads about why 2 teams from one area should have 2 SL places.
I hope this goes someway to explaining the situation!

I'm sure the council can withdraw their land from this offer if they so wish. It's not been gifted has it? i.e. you couldn't sell it to anyone?'"
I'm sure, given rugby league's status, Wakefield Council would not take back a piece of land they have given to the clubs. Rugby League provides a lot of income to businesses in the district. We can't sell it but we can use it as an asset to borrow money against for our respective stadium projects. It is imperative we got this as it now means we do have the finances in place [hopefully!
Quote From listening to the radio piece it sounds as though you are still some way off yet. Detailed designs still need drafting?? That is going to take an absolute age isn't it?'"
The Council have been umming and ahhing over what facilities they are going to put in the stadium. While we have had a brief designs and brief plans, the decision by the council to put the swimming pool in the stadium meamns that we can move on with the full design brief with the developers, and send that out to the architetcs who will then provide their proposals. I'd hazard that would be done within the next month.
I would also then hope we do they detail designs in co-operation with the fans with a view to applying and gaining full planning permission by the turn of the new year, with the build then taking from February onwards. That's my hope anyway. If that happens remains to be seen.

Well it all seems like a plan mate and personally I would much rather play in a SL with Cas and Wakey in it. All the best with it.

| Of course, that's my hope and given the fact that things very rarely go smoothly with Cas (and I have no clue about timeframes about these sort of things) I may be way off the scale, but fingers crossed.

If it is any help (and I know each area works differently, each ground differently etc etc) it was July last year we found out the Saints Stadium wasn't being called in for a Government public enquiry and planning permission was granted a few months before we got that news.

The dates on the article are pretty much what is being quoted now so I am guessing things have gone to plan since then (although I do know the clearing was delayed due to the ground being used for something else). Hopefully things run quicker for your ground though!

| I'd fully expect the time scales to be different. For yours it included the demolition of the current site which is why it has taken so long to get near to beginning.
Ours has started to be flattened and groundworks done ready for the build and doesn't require the clearance.
Goverment has already ratified the outline planning permission decision so it's unlikely it will get called in too.

Fortunately in Italy's Serie A you achieve your status through a more credible promotion and relegation system. In SL your status is now earned on a more selective franchise system.
So if it's good enough for Milan, it most certainly is not good enough for the WF postcode area.

Inspection of the current site ?
Together with plans ?
Anyway not my point
Hopefully they wont include any part finished stadia at the time of application
Then again to dump any club out for stadia that has been in SL for years is totally bloody stupid
So I expect the RFL to do exactly that
Basically they allowed several clubs to lie through their teeth last time , why should it be any different this time
Maybe one day they will make their bloody mind up what they want and have the balls to declare it
Far too much ' nodding , winking and funny hand shakes '

This is true. They were refused use of it in the event that they had of won the grand final which they didn't.

Here's the report.
LEIGH CENTURIONS
The new stadium is close to opening. Inspection of the current site, together with a review of the current plans, suggests that it will be an excellent facility. The new stadium provides the basis on which the club might develop into a strong candidate for Super League by developing its existing structures in a number of areas. Recruitment will need to take place to help deliver the good, reasoned commercial plan. The club has strong historic and predicted shareholder reliance. Evidence was provided of investment in youth production, which would require further strengthening to achieve Super League standards.

You're surprised they inspected the site of, and plans for, the new stadium that, apparently, formed part of Leigh's application?

Clearly 'the current site' is referring to the site of the new ground in its current state (presumably a partly constructed state at the time). How could an inspection of Hilton park suggest that the new stadium will be an excellent facility?

probably so for the first round of franchising.
i think the RFL stayed with the original 12 SL clubs so there would be minimal opposition to the new system.
come the 2nd round of franchising with the system in place i expect the RFL to be kicking out 1 or 2 current SL clubs
