| Does anyone think that a $500,000 fine which will be end up being paid by a News Ltd company to another News Ltd company is a proper punishment? Or a returning of winnings paid out by News and being returned to News is right? The premierships are superficial. So is the points deduction the only really bad punishment?
Players agents should get a slap over this. But there would have been a lot of people who would have known and will get away with it.
As for world news, Reuters have the story so it IS mentioned in the New York Times. But can't find it at the moment in RL playing country France's main paper, Le Figaro.
It'll blow over. This is Australia, sport will win in the end.

| AFL has their biggest club game of the normal season this weekend and its been swamped by talk of RL
the nrl has just blow every other sport off the planet here, even our closest rival in AFL is irrelevant now
the first 10 minutes of Foxsports news was all RL.
this just shows the publicity RL can generate and how interested people are in the sport.

This tends to confirm that the penalties are the right ones.
Extremely harsh but the situation was untenable.
The game will be stronger for it.

ends all discussion that gallop is a news ltd/sl man.
storm are news ltd baby and hes just kicked their buts
after the dogs copped their penalty gallop had no choice but go harsh on them
dogs have recovered from this, so will the storm with news ltd backing
news ltd will just have to stay in for longer in their ownership of the storm

It is interesting to see so many of the old Sydney Melbourne haters coming out of the woodwork.
The NRL must be careful they don't allow this evil sentiment to tarnish the process.

I was wondering if you'd actually attempt to put a positive spin on absolutely any RL (particularly NRL) story. This thread has settled it. I can see it now...
Quote ="dally messenger"Yes i know the Kangaroos have been part of a cult, and have personally murdered several hundred babies in the last year what i want to know is how the hell did they get away with it for so long? the Wallabies couldnt compete with that efficiency, the AFL dont even have a national team
[url=http://www.I'm-a-moron.comRandom daily telegraph link[/url
This story is dominating the media of the whole universe (well i only bothered to check australia's daily telegraph, but oh well, im sure im right anyway)
Oh and the sentancing clashes with an AFL match, cant wait for the Kangaroos to outrate them
they cant even compete with one baby killing rl player when it comes to tv ratings
RL has killed union, and this is proof its going to kill AFL
More proof RL is taking over the world
'"
C'mon be honest, this is an absolute disaster for Melbourne Storm, the NRL, and RL in general.
The thing that surpises me most about this story is how they didnt get caught sooner. Did no-one wonder how they managed to have a team consisting of arguably the worlds best 4 players (Inglis, Slater, Smith and Folau), yet stay within the salary cap?

this isnt our first major salary cap scandal. the last club it happened too has grown its crowds by 50% and increased membership revenue by millions after it.

Also, we need to ask if going strong is good enough. Austalian rl is the best we have to offer, imo it should be using its strength to spread the game to: the rest of Aus, the rest of New Zealand, Fiji, Tonga, Somoa, PNG, South Africa, Japan etc and helping spread the game to Europe, and the US (Without proper international competition, league will suffer, big time), rather than being happy with using its strength to overcome scandal after scandal.

I agree with some of this Dally, but the Bulldogs had a couple of generations of support to fall back on whereas the Storm only just became a teenager, they can survive, but it's going to take a lot of hard work.

Re- Oceania. We are the biggest sport in the region.
The game has already been spread to the rest of Australia, rest of NZ, Fiji, Tonga, Samoa, PNG etc.
Screw the whiteys in SA. Racists.
Japan loves baseball. End of story.
As for the rest of Australia, 1.7 million followed the story last night. Compared to 127,000 for the AFL Footy show.

| to show people how big the nrl is, the s14 expanded to 15 teams, expanded the number of games, and just signed a TV deal for $450 million for the 3 nations combined
our TV deal will double that just for australia and a small bit of nz.
when you are talking about the nrl, its a big, big thing
at a guess, tens of millions of people will have heard this news story in the past couple of days.
thats lots of people hearing about the nrl
