| But lets face it the current system is absolutely farcical. The last true Man of Steel was James Roby, the rest of them have just been given 'Most popular player of the Year' awards.
Lets say for example a Ryan Bailey (Unrealistic I know) or Terry Newton type character were without doubt the standout players in Super League. Those boys have as many haters as John Terry so wouldn't get many votes. The likes of Morley and Hodgson are easy votes because they are 'top blokes' as well as quality players.
I'd also like to know whether the players are given a blank piece of paper and asked to choose or whether they are restricted to a set number that have been shortlisted?

| How popular is Kieron Cunningham with other teams?
He might get a sympathy vote like when the ageing Sean Connery got an Oscar for his 'Irish policeman' in the Untouchables.

| Pat Richards is like the Paul Scholes of rugby
put it this way if i could choose one player from SL to play for Wire it would be Pat every time.

| Amos Roberts was a clear favourite after 10 games but now I think its hime and Lockers. Not just saying that as a Wigan fan but together they have take the team to the next level and are the main reason we are top.
I have never really had a problem with just the top teams getting awards like this because they are there for a reason. This year we are a top team and our top players will be up there.
From Warrington Morley has been quality but hasn't been as good as last year IMO but certainly still a contender.
As for Eastmond just like Tomkins, still has a lot more to offer. Young player of the year IMO.

Kez has been excellent this year (so far) but if he is not the best player of the year he should'nt get MOS,and if i know Kez well enough he himself would say the exact same thing.

| I used to get embroiled in Man Of Steel debates when Leeds were rubbish as well
The last Leeds player to win it was Iestyn Harris 12 years ago.....when we were a one man team! Give me the days of league titles and players playing for each other any day of the year
Adrian Vowles won the MOS one season, and Leeds signed him.
The rest is history

Although James Graham and Sean O'Loughlin have also been superb.

| It's difficult for me to pick a current Man of Steel, but i will say Kevin Brown has been very impressive this season.

Been fantasic this season, been injured the past couple of weeks and we have really missed him.
But if I had to pick a MOS contender from Hull it would have to be Willie Manu, outstanding this year in defence and attack, maybe not MOS but should be in the dream team (along with O Meley) if it was picked now.

| If I had to pick 1 from each of the top 8 :
Wigan - O'Loughlin (only shades Roberts because he's been out)
Warrington - King
Saints - Eastmond
Huddersfield - Brown
Bradford - Kearney (just shades Langley as he's been out for 3 games)
Hull - Fitzgibbon
Leeds - Can't say there's been a standout, Lauitiiti has been good when i've been watching
Wakefield - Would have been Tronc

Obst now then and at Wigan Pat Richards maybe Maguire at Leeds otherwise i'd agree

Pat Richards would be a good shout aswell, but O'Loughlin has been immense all season imo.
McGuire has made too many errors for MoS.

| I hate the word immense. There is now way Frodo has been that good. He's always been a good player but he's not some dashing super hero like people make out.

Spot on about Roberts. If his form is as good when he comes back as it was before then he'll be big favourite imo to win the award.
Along with Eastmond i'd say Roberts nearest challengers are Graham and O'Loughlin.
