| Quote ="jaws1"Does this not defeat the object playing behind closed doors and showing games on SKY if you've not got SKY your going to the pub to watch it or neighbours/relatives house ,coming into closer contact than you would probably at the ground. RL is going to face a big problem either to play behind closed doors or postponing fixtures a big financial headache either way. One suggestion is postpone for 6 weeks and scrap the loop fixtures on a revised fixture list so that you would only play each team home and away still a loss of revenue but far better than playing behind closed doors .'"
6 weeks?
What happens if its 10 weeks, 14 weeks? Etc.
If your 70 or older you may not be able to go out anyway shortly.
Difficult times and IMO some difficult decisions that may not actually have a "Right answer" to them. Maybe just less Bad answers.

| When it's all over perhaps SL could re-start and complete the season by playing 2 games a week.
The obvious concern is player burn out. May be then the RFL/SL could bring in a temp by-law saying no players can play for than 5 games a month. Should the season start again in 3 months then players would only be able to play 15 games in 92 days around a game every 6 days.
More players would be required so the reserve squad players could be used in SL games, this would mean the reserve comp being cancelled.
These are unusual times and different solutions must be found. One thing for sure RL/SL can't afford to cancel the season as clubs wouldn't survive.

| Whatever happens it’s going to be controversial but ultimately done for the public health and safety. The government is banning gatherings of 500 or more, that puts paid to the continuation of the SL season. At least with fans present anyway.
I can’t see SL continuing to be honest. Clubs lose more behind closed doors with no income and bills from game day to go out.
Bizarrely the L1 season could still, theoretically at least, go ahead. If the gatherings are those parameters.

| You have to laugh at the calls for some sort of government support or bailout for Rugby League, when the NHS (which is already up s**t creek) is going to need billions throughout this worldwide crisis!

Well given that so far the catering/restaurant trade, the airlines, the railways and probably several others have already stated they want to the government to bail them out (whatever happened to contingency planning?) I suspect RL will be well down the list if it even makes it onto any list.

If you’re referring to my post where I said an option would be to ask for a bail out you’re wrong in saying I’m calling for it, I never insinuated anything of the sort.
I said myself it’s incredibly unlikely and you’re quite right to point out the NHS in need of money and the long, long list of other agencies who would need it too.

No I wasn’t, pal. I was referring to the umpteen numpties I’ve seen on twitter acting like the sport is the only thing in the world with problems.

| Perhaps the only way for the game to continue is for all wages to cease whilst the season is suspended and employees (including players), claim universal credit from HMG.
Ok, it means a significant pay cut for the Marquee players, but at least when this is over, they'll have a job and a club to come back to.

They won’t qualify for it and even if they did they’d face 6weeks no pay whilst still having bills and the usual stuff going out. It’s a nice idea but isn’t practical. Us, Leeds, Warrington, Saints, Hull and Toronto will be fine with a short term suspension. It’s everyone else that concerns me.

I am 73 years and my wife is in the at risk bracket I love RL but would I put my wife at risk NO going to a rugby match stopped going to the gym as that's a breeding ground .Can see SL going through hard times as players are contacted and need paying can SL survive don't think so as it stands if games are postponed . Can contracts be renegotiated so to offset the clubs wage bill so to allow the clubs to carry on and not be insolvent after all if clubs become insolent then they cannot pay the players wages .Lot of questions to be asked along the line if matches are cancelled could season ticket holders be compensated personally as a season ticket holder and a long time fan of Wigan RL I would not want compensating .Heard that there is a meeting of all SL clubs tomorrow

That's why i repsonded the way I did.
You brought up the suggestion of cancelling the loop fixtures and playing a shortened season.
My response was that it's pointless thinking about those kind of solutions just yet as it may be taken out of everyone's hands, and there may be no good answer to all of this.
Unprecedented times, and difficult unprecedented measures will be required to get through all of this.
There will be casualties in many different ways.
No way on earth would I want any money back on my season tickets.
But others may need it.
In certain circumstances negotiations on wages may be possible.
In certain Instances clubs may have some kind of insurance that may cover some of this
In other instances there will be redundancies etc.
I think fans will just need to be patient and clubs will just have to work together to get through this.
There will be a million expert opinions on this subject on forums like this, but truth is no one knows exactly what will happen.
Let's hope that people all work together and help each other the best we can in all walks of life.

| When you see all the panicking going on in stores and supermarkets, it makes you wonder how some today would have coped during the period of the second world war and the ten years or so period after the war when there was food rationing, a benefit system which was nothing like it is today, a health service in its infancy with nothing like equipment it has today together with extreme poverty and a real shortage of housing as a result of all the bombing.
The problem for the majority today is that have never experience hard times, only the good life!

Spot on. Even if we go into lockdown supermarkets will remain open. We haven’t panic bought anything. I think it’s bloody ridiculous, you see videos on social media of queues going out the entrance drive of shops.
Unfortunately me and my wife are both out there on the front line and at risk of infection. It’s an uncertain, uneasy and worrying time for us. I’m particularly at risk with suffering from asthma, albeit mild.
We need that community spirit back, the type that got us through hard times such as WW2. But we’ve got this “I’m for me and f*** everyone else” attitude. Hence people bulk buying ridiculous amounts of toilet roll with no consideration for anyone else.

Where did this toilet roll thing start? I can understand people maybe buying a little extra food just in case they have to isolate but i can not think of any reason why a stock of toilet rolls should be a high priority. On average i use 2 toilet rolls a week so unless this virus gives you the runs which it does not except in rare cases then i see no reason that anybody should need to be stocking up on months worth of toilet rolls.

Yes. They will forever be known as the 'Coronials'.

I could be wrong but I think it all started when that video of those two women in Australia scrapping over toilet roll.
Either way it’s ridiculous. The wife went to Aldi yesterday and they were fighting in the aisles over meat, one bloke had filled a trolley full of meat and did well to get out of there alive by all accounts. Eventually abandoned his trolley and salvaged what he could.
It’s that type of “me, me, me” attitude which has brought society to its knees and it’s been happening a lot longer than since COVID19 broke out. You’ve got to wonder how these lot would survive if WW2 were to happen today. Enlist? IVE GOT RIGHTS YOU KNOW!
