The fact Briers swings like a small child is more luck than judgement, he shouldn’t be rewarded for it. If you think it through then the end game of that is that Ablett throws himself to the floor like a sack of spuds, feigns injury, goes off for 10 or 15mins (remembering that an injury from foul play gives a free substitution) and Briers gets a worse punishment because of it. Briers should be punished for what he did, we shouldn’t make it in Ablett’s best interest to make it look worse.

Yes, he looks off guard in the photograph. Do you actually know what blindside is? How else could you grade it, or do you think there should be a special grade for Lee Briers?

Ablett is either very effeminate or he's bracing himself for a punch, in real time speed it look like Briers has hit him on the sly because he turns his body away to avoid the punch.

He hasnt turned his body away, it doesnt really show it on one picture but that is the direction Ablett was going he didn’t really turn his body in any direction (though he did turn his head and try and defend himself.

Im not sure why or how people could argue that Briers isn’t attacking him from behind, the picture quite is from dead-on, it shows Briers behind Ablett and coming around the side.

As I have said I have no problem with the charge as it is, I do have a problem with that charge being inconsistent with what has been given before, and what will be given in the future.

Fact is, someone who doesn’t hit like a little girl could have caused serious damage doing exactly what Briers did and having a situation where the result determines what the punishment leaves us in a situation where it becomes a better outcome for Ablett for him to feign injury. That isn’t what we want either. What Briers did was dangerous and it put Ablett at risk of injury, the next person to do what Briers did may not be so lucky and they will probably face a huge ban and I don’t think that is right either.

if you had the evidence you could provide it. But you dont, because it doesnt exist. None of the RFL, the referee or the picture show what you said. They also dont show what he said either, but just because it didnt agree with what he made up, doesnt mean it does agree with what you made up.

Briers is not behind Ablett.

he clearly is behind, and coming round, look at the other picture, Briers legs are behind Abletts or look at teh video and sequence of events. Im not saying he punched him in the back of the head, but he clearly, and obviously punched him coming around the side from behind.

Just out of interest, what charge do you believe would have been sufficient?

I don’t really have a problem with the charge he got, I just think A) it should have been dealt with at the time, I cannot see why Child didn’t at all. He cant say he was unsighted or there was some kind dispute. And B) it doesn’t seem in-line with what we have seen from similar incidents before.

If this is how such an action will be judged in the future, I don’t really have a problem with it. But as I say, we will likely, in probably the near future see an incident where someone does something nearly identical and we will see a punishment wildly out of line with a one match ban reduced to a fine for an EGP.
