His peers seem happy for him to be doing it and several meetings of championship and league one clubs were held at Odsal. You may wish to write him off as merely a lone rentagob but that isn't the case.

I was a ST holder at Parkhead from 1983-1990, travelling Dublin or London every fortnight.......arrival of the first Kid stopped me going. I don't care where they play, if I lived in Europe I'd still be a ST holder....and rangers would be thankful of the rental income
I fail to see how Lazio and Roma, Turin and Juve, or the Milanese ground share arrangements as they were are any different to Wakefield and Castleford sharing a ground? Let's face it, neither will attract 10k average gates, so the idea of 2 stadiums a 9 iron apart in a region that will fill neither is insanity. In the current climate of austerity it seems crass to look at 2 separate investments, regardless of if they are privately funded or not.....NYC, one of the wealthiest cities on the planet sees the Giants and the Jets share a stadium.......it makes fiscal sense which is something missing in terms of RL in the UK

The Rangers fans I know would rather burn down Ibrox than share.
Always makes me laugh when opposition fans tell us what to do but don't see why it would apply to them.
Personally I'd happily share as long as it was a good deal for Wakefield one way or another. If we are just renting I'd rather rent off Featherstone.

come on pal you know better than that , you are correct in your post above that neither will fill a decent sized 13/14K stadium , and if so , whats actually wrong with where they are both right now ?

| Don't see two stadiums getting built, even one would be miraculous in the current climate. If it is one, I'm sure a sharing deal will be put on the table that'll be a cheaper option than maintaining an ancient ground. And while it might leave a proportion of the unlucky fanbase spitting, I suspect the club owners will prove more pragmatic.

| As an aside, is there a UK example of rival teams in the same sport sharing a stadium for anything other than on a temporary basis? The only one I can think of is Palace and Wimbledon which didn't really work out for the latter and has led to a relocation and a reincarnation, neither of which are anywhere near getting back to where the original club was.

Do you have any concept of financial viability? It's not that every Wakefield fan would stop going, but enough would stop going to make it no longer financially viable. How many Wigan fans would stop going if they were asked to share with Saints in St Helens? They wouldn't get what they do now. Translate that into Wakefield's current fanbase and you have a problem. It's about convenience too, you know.

| Only solution to a shared stadium would be a totally council owned and run stadium on a mid sited location between the 2 , however both clubs rely massively on match day sales to have the income required to stay anywhere near competitive in SL , they would lose that income and most likely their SL status , neither clubs owners will risk that , and neither clubs supporters would want them to
so both stay where they are

Cas fans coming to Wakefield or Wakefield fans going to Cas to watch their home games is an absolute NON RUNNER, end of story.
IF both clubs shared an equally owned facility, with both clubs able to make revenue on non match days, then, it could work (potentially) but, where and more importantly, when could this possibly happen.
Interestingly, the Newmarket scheme was going to truly be a community stadium but, the 5 towns ground was always to belong to Castleford and although there wold have been some community use, it was never a "community staduim".
Plus, once the 2 clubs were sharing a ground, just how long would it be before the dreaded "Merger" was muted ??

So build a stadium to be used and bring in income 30 odd times a year , and then get rid of 1 team reducing income to 17-18 times a year , not very financially ' savvy ' you yorkshiremen , are you ?

Alternatively once all the fans (of both clubs) have got used to travelling to the ground and enjoying the shiny new facilities, finally persuade 2 clubs, playing out of the same stadium to merge.
After all, SOME have been trying to do this since Wakefield arrived in SL, 20 years ago and some even longer.

They (Cstleford and Wakefield) have demonstrated that they dont want to merge.
However the pressure to do so would not come from within either club but, with the drive to expand the game into N.America, there is every chance that some bright spark at The RFL may just broker the subject again and with the sports desire to reinvent itself and change the structure every few years, just how long do you think it would take for the dreaded merger question to be muted (again), especially if there cam a time when both clubs were struggling at the lower end of the league.

Wouldn't try to second guess what the RFL might or might not do but I don't see how they could force two sides, both in private ownership, to merge. It might be that one or both could be displaced by expansion sides - equally by the likes of Bradford - but why that would pressurise the relegated side towards a merger I don't get. The relegated side would presumably press for re-admittance in the way cas, hkr, London and widnes have done and if they lacked the firepower to do so, surely they'd compete at a lower level as fax, Bradford et al. are doing now.
But if both were struggling both on the pitch and attendance-wise, it might be that a shared ground wouldn't be quite the no-no it would be now while the sides are playing well and pulling in ok-ish crowds.

| Only way a ground share will ever happen is if there's no further progress for Wakefield next few years and the Cas development collapses. Then I reckon they'd sort out some joint project in Normy near the new police station or something.

| Castleford's ground is bad enough, but it's a palace compared to that complete dive Wakefield call a stadium.
Everyone who I know whose been there absolutely slates the place. Hardly suprising with it's stands and facilities which are straight out of the 1930s. That tip is a stain on our sport.
Wakey have had a huge amount of time to improve their stadium or move to a new one it and have massively failed and don't look like sorting their issues out anytime soon. They need removing from Super League until they have a stadium fit for the competition. Lets face it, they've never brought too much to it anyway.

London's team is bad enough, but they're Brisbane Broncos compared to that complete shower Widnes call a Super League squad.
Everyone I know who has watched them absolutely slates them. Hardly surprising with their coach and players which are straight out of the 1980s. That team is a stain on our sport.
Widnes have had since 2012 to improve their current players or buy some new ones and have massively failed and don't look like sorting their issues out anytime soon. They need removing from Super League until they have a team fit for the competition. Lets face it, they've never brought too much to it anyway.
(Thankfully my wish came true around September time. Enjoy the Championship, I'll be at Belle Vue watching Super League).
