Bateman was quality. Saw him stick Tuigamala on his aris, a couple of times.
Liked Rowland, too
Was never overly keen on Ellis. He was good at dominating poor halves, but was always second best to Edwards, Gregory, Fox and Aston.
Johnny the Sheep Davies........manlove
I'd pay good money to watch him make toast.
Genius'"
Davies could still play now and be our best player! Effortless talent. Man love

A poor time in Wire history.
I remember half the letters to the Guardian one week (when the rumours were abound that we were signing him) were fans BEGGING the club not to sign him.
Peter Higham wrote an open letter in the following week's edition, basically telling the fans to shut up, and he'll sign who he wants. Days later, the dirty deed was done.
Peter Higham's darkest hour. Sad, really.
Disgrace of a player.

| Andy Currier switched codes, joined my RU side, London Welsh and scored 50 tries quicker than any other player in our history, and we have quite some history.
I kid you not. He was quite a hero at Old Deer Park.

| While he never hit the heady heights I liked Rowland as a player. Our game is definitely poorer now the Welsh conveyor belt is broken.

Rowland captained and coached London Welsh.
He's now coaching the Wales RU ladies team, of which his daughter Carys is the captain.

| I was never sure as to why Roland didn't get more game time. He was clearly popular with the fans but not with the coaching staff. Could it be that he had a bonus payment due after a certain number of first team games?

It might be good, or it might be a pile of cliched cack, but I'll give it a watch, then decide.
The Rugby Codebreakers.
Documentary charting the life-changing and controversial experiences of the Welsh Rugby League player. It uncovers the hidden history of the players who turned their back on the land of their fathers, becoming pariahs and outcasts in their own country - but heroes and legends in a foreign land. During rugby union's amateur era (1895-1995) more than 150 capped and uncapped Welsh rugby union players did the unthinkable and 'went north', switching codes to play Rugby League. But once they had become code-breakers, many went onto become huge success stories across the north of England - stories that have remained largely untold in Wales.
Carolyn Hitt uncovers why so many men gave up their dreams of playing for Wales to seek fame and fortune among the mills of Lancashire and Yorkshire. It's a story that explores the impact of class, racial prejudice and devastating economic change on the game at the heart of Welsh identity.

I think Davies would have to go down as the best centre for me (that’s where he played mostly for us). He won matches on his own, every week.
Although on a return-for-money, consistent performances basis, Bateman is arguably the best import this club ever had after Bevan.

Thanks for the heads-up, fella.
I really enjoyed that.
No chips on my shoulders, but the Welsh RU really are to55er5.
I wouldn't treat next door's dog like that, let alone a person.
The woman who presented it was very balanced, if not slightly pro RL.I got the impression that she was EXTREMELY embarrassed by the Welsh RU's behaviour.
On the whole, I was half expecting a sneering look at our code. It didn't come across. Too many times, I've seen Welsh RU people who couldn't even call our sport by it's name. We were ALWAYS called "the Northern game' Whoppers.
I can recommend anyone who missed it, to try and watch it on catch up.

There aren't many Welsh RU fans who'd disagree with you there.
A quote from another site (a Welsh RU one) I frequent, about this programme.
"Dai Bish. Something else. So many of the players are still angry. Fair dos the the WRU blazers have always been w@nkers".

| Sounds like one of those guys who loves keeping his body in top condition and plays sport for the love of it, even when it's just with an amateur club.
If we ever get rugby back how about a half time fitness circuit challenge: Bateman v Chaddy. Worth standing through two boring halves of rugby to see that.

| Yep - I'd go for that.
Davies for me would be the best centre not specifically for his centre play - which was top draw - but for his all round game and incredible vision.
Blake would probably be my number 2 and then it's the likes of Bateman, King, Kohe-Love and Bridge.
If I remember rightly Bateman had a body fat percentage of 11 ! Unbelievable for an athlete in a contact sport.
God knows how many multiples of that I am !!
Bateman is such a nice guy too.
