| That may longer be a given, he will need to get back some credibility as an individually and a sportsman, the alleged comment that he was seen drunk at the Grand Final says much about his approach, not played for over a year, does not appear to have put much into keeping trim and fit, again allegedly, fleeing the law does not count as training. I'd say Idiot Boy has much to do before he's worth a punt by a League 1 Club never mind an SL team.

Ancient and Loyal.
Right decision imo. He needs professional help and that is what the club have arranged for him, so well done Wigan.

IL appears to think not - he alludes in the statement that it "could and should" have been dealt with before; it's almost as if the adult man himself has no responsibility for his repeated misdemeanours, and it's all because other adult humans haven't taken charge of his life.

exactly he has had plenty of help and plenty chances, he will keep screwing up because he does not care, he says what he is told to say, and acts like he is remorseful, but less than 12 months it took him to screw up again when he should have been getting his head down and keeping out of trouble, but instead he decided to spend a year our on the back snorting coke (well why not i'm already banned for it) and when he screws up again at Wigan they will say " this is your last chance" honestly be better for the game if union came in for him get rid of him completely.

That is the point you can provide help but if the person does not want or cannot accept the help there is nothing you can do.
I do not believe that Leeds and Cas offered no help to try to turn him around so they could benefit from his immense talent

They probably have provided help but this rehab option appears not to have been included.
Don't know if it will work but it's at least worth a shot, not only because of his talent but for him personally.

Quite ‘classy’ of Wigan to try shift some of the blame on his former clubs.
Leeds sent him to anger management to no apparent avail and had him doing coaching with LGBT rugby teams after his homosexual insult incident. Maybe Leeds could’ve sent him to rehab for his drinking but maybe it wasn’t at the same level in 2014/15/16 as it is now in 2018 and him not being able to play.

| Wigan are giving him the best chance of rehabilitation by sending him for a residential stay at the Sporting Chance clinic. It might not work, but it’s the best chance he’s got. Unfortunately he’s in the bracket of those who it is most difficult to rehabilitate - an alcoholic under the age of 30.
Poor form for Wigan to insult his previous clubs. He was the model professional at Cas until his ban. There were no signs of any problems over his nine months at the club before his moment of madness.
Leeds gave him professional support when he was there when it was needed too.
It’s quite possible he’s become addicted to alcohol during his suspension as he hasn’t had the focus of professional RL and the need to be in training in a daily basis. Nor has he had the influence of other professional athletes, but has spent all his time with his “mates” from outside RL. Seems strange for Wigan to be throwing insults at Leeds and Cas when they’ve signed a player with well-known mental health issues who is only available because he’s been banned for taking class A after a drinking binge. What exactly were they expecting?

| I believe booze was involved in in his original published incident with the student resolved with an 'sorry letter' and a some cash compensation for the student, so maybe the alcohol is a recurring theme and not a result of his white powder playtime and subsequent quite lenient 14 month ban, pity his mates and family didn't rally round and get him to keep fit and ready to step back into sport. IDIOT BOY the sad saga continues

His mates are his biggest barrier to overcoming his problems. Hopefully his stint in rehab will help him realise that walking away from them gives him a better chance of staying off the booze. The acid test is whether he can walk away from his old lifestyle. Only time will tell on that one.

Spot on. If these issues “could and should have been confronted already” then why didn’t they do it themselves? He signed back in May and they were talking to him for a few months previously, so why did it take them several months and a serious incident to take this course of action?

Because Lenagan wasn't wriggling around trying to save face back then? Just a wild guess, like.

His mistake was saying it was Zak’s last chance when he signed in May. He’s now on his second last chance before he’s even played a game.
The clear message to Zak and all the other players is that Leneghan doesn’t mean what he says.
They are doing the right thing sending him to rehab. I bet Leneghan hasn’t looked into the chances of successfully rehabilitating an alcoholic under the age of 30 though (spoiler alert - it’s a very low success rate).
There’s a bit of naivety in terms of when he comes out of rehab. I’m not sure what qualifications or experience Steve McCormak has working with addicts who have mental health problems, but I doubt he has the expertise needed to support Zak in continuing his rehabilitation.

Get over it, all the cards are in Lenners hands.
Zak gets straight and has at least one decent season we have a man of steel on the cheap.
Zak Mucks up, Lenners sacks him and we have two players ready to cover the position without much of an effect to the whole team.
Lenners is a Winner Winner Chicken Dinner..

Erm, Wigan’s statement today suggests he will be heavily involved in his role as Player Welfare Manager.

Whilst all the time, the big black cloud that is Zak Hardaker hangs over the club, waiting to self-destruct at any given moment.
I’m afraid “Lenners” has already fallen into the trap of giving Hardaker more than one last chance. He’s done it on the naive belief that Zak will change and it’s understandable given his on-field ability. The trouble is that the chances of Hardaker changing are remote.

Soz to upset you after the nilling in the semis but without the said black cloud, we are the Champs..
Lenners is the house and we have plenty of cover for that position, in fact, a grand final winning Full-Back currently in the centres.
Lenners is the man, he makes the right calls, just look at his record as the Wigan Chairman...
