We probably won't, I agree, but you never know. It does disprove your point that individual players won't grow crowds though. Some will. Whether we can get those players with this new ruling we shall see...

| I would have thought that the money being spent on Marquee players would have been better spent on junior development, not some over the hill player from the NRL looking for a last big payday.

If you spend it on the right player, they can generate more money and you can have both. It's not always one or the other.

There's the top 34 players in the world today(excluding England players). Given that a couple of the roos above will not play for their country again, who of them are:
a/ Worth 500k a year
b/would be tempted by 500k a year
c/ are worth sacrificing youth development for
d/would add the required 2,000 bums on seats to pay their 500k wage?

| If Koukash brings over someone like Shaun Johnson, and yes he could easily afford it, it would certainly provide a massive boost to the game.
I'm really looking forward to seeing who comes over. Great news.

1. Koukash didn't appear on any top 100 rich list
2. 2nd rate/over the hill Anzacs is what you'll get.....
3. NRL Players of contract for 2016.......none of them would add an ounce of media exposure

E)your last rolo
F)a video of a gorrilla/bear knife fight
G)worth sacrificing a Virgin to feathered snake God quetzalcoatl
H)would solve all the problems not just in the game but in the entire world, including but not limited to the isreali/Palestinian conflict, the growth of ISIS, the career prospects of Howard from the Halifax ads and my hayfever
Cos until there are players out there worth that and who will solve those problems I don't think we should pay anyone at all. Not just rl player but for goods and services and everyone's wages.

| I'm the type of fan that like to watch RL on TV and will attend maybe 10 or more games a year. Would attend more but work and Saints home games clash.
From the list of players from Jim Pooley, I recognised

I would kindly suggest that some of those were a bit of a guess as to whether I really did recognise the names. So in terms of pulling in fans who have given up on the game, your talking about maybe less than 10.
Overall I'm slightly for the change. But I don't think one player will be a huge factor in determining the results over a season.

| The additional money or length of contract would have to be significant to what they can command in the NRL to get any player at the top of his game to England.
More likely players winding down, for every Steve Menzies there will be 10 players cruising into the sunset on big money.
Not many Aussie players have a burning desire to play or move to England unless its Matt Kings "Mad money" deal.
Its not like in the past where the seasons were opposite and you could play all year round.
Or like Johns that linked up after Newcastle Knights did not make the Finals in the NRL.
Or where Lyons could not play in the NRL because he was in dispute with Parramatta and they held his NRL contract so he had to move to England.

Comment 2 is 100% right in my opinion.
I know i keep beating the drum for junior development, because i think that's where the long term future lies for British Rugby League, not has been's and never was players from the NRL

How are the current NSW half-back and winger past their sell-by-date? Please explain that.

| The players on that list certainly aren't all past their sell-by, but the only ones I'd *really* like to see in SL are Maloney and Sandow; perhaps Hopoate and Ferguson. Doubt very much if any of them would come, though.

| Fijian wingers are probably the best chance to go for big money.
They don't get any SOO or test money - so it's a straight out bidding war with their clubs - and guys like Radradra, Koribete, Uate, Nabuli etc would put bums on seats.

I think this is the reality of the Marquee Player rule.
As others have posted, none of the current Aussie and Kiwi national teams will come over, plus the origin squads (including hopefuls) so we are left with the players who have finished their international careers.
Ok there are still some cracking players, who will put "bums on seats" but, the way that Koucash and the RFL have tried to "sell" the idea.
We should be expecting Slater, Inglis and Thurston and maybe Sonny Bill in SL next season.
Time as always will show who's right and of course Tomkins will be back over next season.
Someone should open a book on who is likely to be next.

| Never mind spending on marquee players or even the academies, we need to spend more on the proper officiating and regulating of the amateur leagues so that we can get rid of ridiculous clubs like Queens and ban the players, coaches and officials involved in violence in the amateur game.

| It is going to be very interesting to see how teams manage this. It will give teams who have not competed for top honours in Super League the chance to lure the best British talent away from the top sides. For example Hull KR would most likely meet the criteria so what's to stop them making an offer to say a Zak Hardaker that Leeds simply cannot match. There could be many suprises next season that is for certain.
