| Featherstone Rovers coach Daryl Powell in today's RL&LE
Talking about fev running an academy and the RFL
" Its taken a little bit of time to get things in place , and the RFL make it difficult for Championship clubs "
"It's difficult because it cost a lot of money , and that needs to be looked at . But were being restricted by the financial constraints that are put on clubs "
"Were going to have to work exceptionally hard to make this work in the right way . Something needs to be put in place to allow clubs like us to develop young players . "
"There needs to be as many opportunities as possible for young players to work in a professional environment . They way I see it at the moment is that's being restricted .but it could be easier and should be easier . There can still be stringent rules in place over the duty of care and the quality of coaching and work that you put into players . But there has to be a different way that doesn't restrict clubs through cost ."
" I'm hoping that somewhere down the line the RFL will help all clubs to operate a seamless development pathway , and grow the number of people getting opportunities to play professional sport . "
Intersting stuff there

On 19th August, Featherstone announced their scholarship is complete and will compete in the U18's Super League (or Valvoline Cup?)
"ROVERS' PATHWAY TO SUCCESS COMPLETE.
If you believe in something you work to make it happen. You fight for it if you have to.
Rovers' head Coach Daryl Powell, his assistant Ryan Sheridan and everyone involved in running the club, have striven to create a top quality system for developing talent from schoolboy to professional. Their work and belief has paid off with the retention of their burgeoning scholarship programme, and the entry of a team in the Valvoline U18 Academy. With Rovers' Reserve Grade side having a fine season, that complete system is now in place."

Not impossible , just financially not viable or of a big enough priority , well done Fev , but still according to Daryl Powel made overly difficult by the RFL

but they do not 'refuse' to allow non SL clubs to run scholarships...as you said when you started this thread. a statement that was, simply, wrong.

They have refused us to run the scholarship in the way we have been running it , ie they have changed the rules , just as they changed the rules on academies a few years ago , I have no wish to continue going over it all again
I posted what Daryl Powel was quoted in the RL and LE , pass comment on that if you want , or maybe you think he is wrong , you wont of course , you like many others always ignore anything not quite to their agenda

| Super League clubs get helped by the RFL to run these Scholarships, Championship clubs do not, I guess this is what Daryl means when he says 'Financial Constraints' as Featherstone have now got to fund this program by itself.
With all due respect to clubs who don't run scholarship programs, I don't think the kids away from scholarship rugby receive the same level of coaching as the lads who are in a scholarship, so to retain this privilege to a chosen few and keeping it an elite group of teams is inevitably holding the game back.
I believe clubs running scholarships should be helped by the RFL no matter what level of the game they play.

meet the criteria then. as one of your own fans has said in this thread - the RFL talent route is the envy of other sports and is designed to ensure that the top players get the development they need. your system doesnt pass the test and remember that fev have managed to meet this criteria now - then ask your club why thay haven't managed it. and then wonder why it is you'll be playing championship rugby once again. you'll blame the RFL, but when other championship clubs are overcoming the problems that leigh suggest can't be sorted, then you have to ask whats wrong in the club???

That would be because we are a Championship club , nothing to do with scholarships
