Well, I used the word "nearly" because at the time we had to transfer list a load of players, and our coach, Royce Simmons, ended up running a load of marathons to raise money to keep the club going. "Nearly" is the only word to use as fortunately we're still here, same as you, Cas & Wakey are still here after near misses.
I used "effectively" because 1995 was a funny year due to the switch over to Summer & SL. We came 2nd bottom and went from the top tier to the second tier.
1999 our players were on strike as they weren't being paid due to the utter mismanagement from Wilby/Lloyd.
You're right, there are a lot of fans who won't have experienced the 90's and grown up only seeing a Hull side in SL. They certainly don't think Wembley is the norm, 4 from the last 11 at New Wembley isn't the norm is it, and due to the excitement this week around the club, the novelty hasn't worn off and I hope it never does.

I've seen Hull play in Division 1, and in 1999 we had all pretty much resigned ourselves to not having a club to support anymore. Regardless of how it all turned out, anyone who has supported Hull for a long time knows what adversity is.

It's chipped wood. Take a look at today's posts. Couple of players are shown scratching at the cracks. People jumping to conclusions. If they were to do lines it wouldn't be in the changing rooms in front of the coaches. Jeeeeez.

Nah it's obviously cocaine, I've written a GUI in visual basic which allows you to take a sample from that photo and in real time give you the results. 100% cocaine nothing else straight from Pablo's old personal stash he forgot about.

Surely no one can seriously think it is can they and they're just on the wind up? I know RL players have a reputation as big daft lads but they aren't that bloody daft to do it in the dressing rooms with all the coaches around and management too.

| Quote ="Fully"Quite frankly, I don't give a flying frig what any opposition fans think.
It ranks of bitterness. I'm immensely proud of what my side have achieved this season, it's more than most expected, and we've done it a convincing, satisfying and comprehensive style. I'd love to go on and win the Grand Final just to ram it down people's throats but in reality, even if we go on to win absolute naff all after this, I'll still be proud of it.
It means a lot to us fans when we nearly lost our club and I'm pretty sure fans of Salford, Wakefield would also revel in winning the League Leaders' Shield too and finishing top of the pile. When you've seen the dark days, you enjoy the glory days even more.
Over the years we've been treated as little Cas, always treated with contempt and as a 'team we should be beating'. Not anymore. It's about time we got some payback and I'm glad we have. Fans of the big clubs don't like other clubs roughing up the norm now and that for me is the most satisfying part.
When fans of clubs like Hull, Wigan and Leeds have seen your club get relegated, really, really struggle and fear for the future - when you've walked through the days of admin like fans of smaller clubs - only then come back and tell us why we shouldn't be euphoric about what our teams have achieved.
No one remembers the LLS. Well I remember Huddersfield won it, clearly other people do, I'm sure our fans will remember it. It means more to us and we're going to celebrate this achievement.'"
No one's saying don't enjoy it. Just don't expect adulation from everyone else because no one cares.
Your examples are terrible BTW. Hull were relegated (or demoted or whatever the f%ck happened when the league split in 95) Wigan nearly in 2006, leeds in 96 and to a lesser extent last year.
Cocky classy cas, when will they learn?

Never ever bought into this G.F Winners are best team $#!T€, 1st over a full season are rightfully CHAMPIONS in my view & about time that RL returned to rewarding it as such with the best tropy & financial rewards.
Cas, Champions in my book.'"
There's 1 tiny problem. Finishing top can't be viewed as being real champions because winning the grand final is what makes you champions. That's the rules that everyone enters into the season under. It's a mute point, a different argument. If your argument is " I think finishing top should make you champions" have at it. But the argument of "cas are real champions because they finished top" is irrelevant because no one entered into the season under the assumption finishing top qualified you as champions.

Oh no some sad w@nker on a forum says we shouldn't expect adulation for winning the league. I think we should give the league leaders shield back and turn down and accolades.... little old cas should know our place.

| Well I for one congratulate our local rivals on a great achievement.
It's a big deal. Celebrate as much as you like......who cares what a small minority of fans from some big clubs that got used to keeping the silverware for themselves think.
Assuming Wakefield don't get to the GF, I hope Cas win it. It's a victory for the little clubs.
I have to say, is it any wonder that we get poor media coverage and poor perception outside our game when a team that have gone against the odds and won the league is criticised for celebrating and more so told that the trophy is just a hub cap and it means nothing. Why would anyone try to publicise our game when we think it's nothing. Beggars belief.

| I suppose we should do a Leeds instead and cry and celebrate over knocking a stand down to rebuild one in the exact same place. Nobody's talking about that!!
Before anyone says "it's because they have so much history there"
Yeh they do.... At Headingley, not in the bloody south stand.
That seems to be fine. But we ain't allowed to celebrate winning the LLS. Some of you fans putting it down are a joke. Simple.

| I don't really get all th bickering over this. From a Castleford point of view it is certainly a great achievement and worth a bottle or two of fizz. I don't mean any disrespect by this but clubs such as Wigan, Leeds and St Helens have a been there done that attitude and are only really interested in what is (whether you agree it should be or not) the big prize.
In short, well done Cas, and if my team don't make the top 4 I hope there's a new name on the Trophey whoever it may be.

| Congratulations Cas, it is a great achievement that will long be celebrated by your fans. Winning the LLS is, without doubt, the sign of the most consistent and best team in the comp. If only there was some way of it comming after the Grand Final and it would be treated with the respect that it deserves.

You're losing the plot.
This needy attitude where you're craving adulation from other sets of fans is a bit pathetic. Just celebrate it & enjoy it, don't worry about what praise you do & don't get from other fans.

| Not read the last 15 pages, and I'm not going to, but looking back at the last couple of pages - who cares?
Fantastic achievement by Cas this year, to be as consistent as they have been all year and guaranteeing themselves the LLS with games to spare - well done them! Lets just hope they carry on that through the rest of the playoffs, get to the GF and win it, proving that consistency does really pay off!

We don't. But we don't like people being petty and throwing out excuses such as 'it's because everyone else is bad' or 'the standard is dropping', or telling us 'it's not important', 'no one remembers the LLS winners' or 'that it is meaningless'. Just because your own sides have gone backwards shouldn't lessen the achievement, particularly when opposition fans have taken great pleasure over the years of telling us we have bang average players who no one else wants, or who is 'good but he's no X....'.
Quote Hull were relegated (or demoted or whatever the f%ck happened when the league split in 95) '"
They finished in the bottom half and so formed part of the 2nd division along with 3/4 other clubs in the restructure. In a time the game wasn't full-time. They haven't lost half their team as a result or had to risk everything to get back into SL, where the money is. Of those teams in the 2nd division, 4 of them are now in Super League. Though they did have financial difficulties, the merger saved them and in fact even could be argued was the catalyst for the club today.
So yeah, maybe, but I don't think the impact would be half as big as it is now. I've only thrown Hull in because they've really turned against us this season for whatever reason, and that's sad. However, they've spent megabucks over the past decade on average Aussies and got nowhere. Their angst towards us seems to be on the fact that the media have waxed lyrical about our style of play and they're upset they haven't got credit for knocking us out of a one-off cup tie. It's bizarre.
Quote

Nearly. Not did. They didn't struggle or sell off their own players. Instead that flagrantly broke the salary cap in order to stay up.
Quote leeds in 96 and to a lesser extent last year.'"
Again. Didn't and didn't.
Quote Your examples are terrible BTW. '"
So terrible your responses are 'nearly', 'nearly' and...erm, 'nearly'.
Quote Cocky classy cas, when will they learn?'"
Where are we cocky? No one ever started this season out expecting us to win the LLS. We've enjoyed this season and we're proud of our achievement. The only people cocky are the ones knocking us, who believe they have a divine right to be at the top and anyone else who does get near the top is down to others being bad, not the side being good.
