The family game of drug cheats, those that smash women in the face, glass people, use racist language so on and so forth yeah sticking 2 fingers up is really going to ruin that nice clean family image we have!

You cant have it both ways. Either it was banter and Tomkins should be professional enough to rise above it or it was foul and abusive language and gestures and Tomkins was giving it back.
Tomkins was stupid. Its not a massive deal, but it was silly.

Whether it was banter or abusive it was tit for tat I think folk need to grow up about it. The only reason folk are so bothered is because it is Tomkins simple as that

| It's bringing the game, the player and his club into disrepute.
Abuse from opposition fans is part and parcel of any sport. It's a sad state of affairs, but that's the world we live in.
However, a professional sportsman is supposed to behave to certain standards while on the pitch. Tomkins doesn't and as such gets possibly more abuse than he deserves.

The only person who has growing up to do in this is Tomkins himself.

| Vomkins could have nipped the situation in the bud, by quickly giving a straight forward apology if he offended anyone. Instead he has added more fuel to the fire by more or less denying the occasion happened, hence the enquiry by the RFL, the guy is an epitome of A Wigoon.

| Maybe it was an involuntary movement of his finger joints. He could have a =#0000FF[uDIFJM[/u (Degenerative Involuntary Finger Joint Movement). Harvey Smith had it and so too did Winston Churchill. Let's not castigate the lad until the medical profession has had a chance to help him.

| Quote ="SmokeyTA"Within reason, pretty much. No, you dont have to accept it. You just arent allowed to behave in a way which makes the game look bad. Its part of your contract. I dont find it a disgrace. Tomkins made himself look stupid. He looked like a petulant baby hiding behind someone else and sneaking a V up. Its something most people grow out of when they are about 8 years old. A 1match ban and £500 fine would probably be a fair punishment for his behaviour. Im not sure we should be involving the police or mummy (especially as its Sunday, she should have a roast on the go)'"
In between cooking the sunday roast, suggest tompkins mummy would be better employed smacking his legs for being such a rude, little boy.

Take your victim t-shirt off.
He's been a plonker, if Wigan deal with it the RFL won't need to. Simple.

The theme of "it's only being mentioned because it's Sam / Wigan / We're Back" is ridiculous, but typical.
I agree if it was some no mark prop forward in the Northern Rail Cup it would hardly have got a mention, but had it been any of the wind-up merchant type players from a premier team it would have attracted similar threads.
It was a high profile game and a high profile player. Of course it's going to get airtime. And not just because Wigan are 'back'.

Yes I agree it would. Tomkins is such a player thus I was correct that the reason there is this much fuss is because it was Sam Tomkins. Very few other players could/would have provoked such a reaction.
I am as unhappy has any non Wigan fan that they 'are back' but that has nothing to do with my opinion of this incident.

Except that when the Doncaster player (Shaun Leaf?) backed his own team to lose against us in an early round of the same competition, it made the national media.
Regardless of how much people want to talk this down, or suggest it's a jealousy issue, the fact remains that in a sport with very little media profile, Tomkins has a bit of one, and his brainless actions during the showcase game of the season have brought the game, his club and himself into disrepute.
To mitigate the negative effects of his Rooney-esque behaviour, Wigan and the RFL need to discipline him immediately, and he needs to get in the media making "heat of the moment, passion of the occasion, love my club" type excuses.
Following that, the RFL need to find another poster boy, and quick. I'd suggest Josh Charrnley but he has too many tattoos; is Foster as obnoxious as he appears, or could he be appropriately groomed, in a non Gary Glitter kind of way of course?

I don't think 'grooming' is something you need to worry about with Foster - spends more on beauty products than my missus.

| Can't believe some so called fans are defending his actions.
The argument of "They did it so he's allowed to give it back" How old are you, 8????
He is a professional rugby league player therefore he had to conduct himself in a certain manor. Abuse is part f the game whther you like it or not. If players were allowed to give it back, as you suggest there would be chaos.
If you can't take abuse, don't become a professional sportsman.
