| Quote ="UllFC"Best thing about yesterday was seeing the optimism back at a club that's been stuck in the Championship for years with nothing to play for. It's great to see clubs like Leigh resurgent, and hopefully the new structure will breath some life in to Bradford and London too. The other bonus is it keeps clubs at the bottom end of SL on their toes, far too many have (including my own HullFC) have wallowed around the mid to low table with no threat of relegation to ignite some passion for too long now.'"
I agree mate, relegation battles although nerve wracking are exciting.
I actually think the middles 8's could have more drama and excitement than the top 8's.

What was interesting after the match was that the mom/captain Beswick and Rowley said we had not played that well when interviewed'"

For a follower of the team who delayed each and every GLDO at Doncaster v Sheffield Eagles your post is risible.
Just as you won the game v Sheffield Eagles following a ridiculous offload by Q,Leigh managed to win this game after an inexplicable error by BJB.
In reality Leigh defeated a side made up,in the main,of players with more Championship/Academy experience than the Super League/International experience of Leigh.
The 2 best SRD players,Theo and Niall Evalds were ignored, last year,by Noble with Evalds out on loan to Championship 1 club,Barrow. Both developed through the academy at Salford
Hooker Godwin is 3rd choice at Championship Dewsbury and Hooker Hood was signed from Championship Hunslet.
Loose forward Forster was on loan at Championship Whitehaven.
MCB was part of the London side relegated to the Championship,as was G.Griffin, and Johnson was signed from Batley, also in the Championship.
Cory Patterson had retired from the sport last year to take up boxing.
A good number of the Leigh side were signed from Super League clubs.Hock being one of the latest international players.
Well done. You can now take on Wakefield, who didn't seem able to afford one of your players a couple of years ago when they struggled financially

| Wow, didn't realise Salford had bought that many e players. Thanks for the info AC.
Also makes you wonder why Leigh can afford Liam where Wakey couldn't..............waiting for the RLF to do us for salary cap breach any time soon.
Why the angst against Leigh ? It come across as being very bitter.

| There is alot of that at the moment and will get worse with every win. I see Marwan is back to his old tricks, stating in article that he was unhappy with things Rowley had said and that Paul was probably bitter at missing the assistants job to Harris. Marwan you are a pr1ck

| It will continue to get worse as long as some Leigh fans continue to be sore winners and antagonize pretty much everyone else! Got nothing against the club, admire them for what they've achieved considering they were on the brink a few years back. Don't mind them winning or upsetting the SL cart, it's just some fans like to be too much up in their own arris.

I have complete admiration for you as a fan of a club that is totally ignored by the folk of its name, I accept that you are probably clueless but enthusiastic about our great sport and see dialogue on these boards as a means of education.
May I wish you all the best in getting to understand what is happening in front of you at games and that you can get more of your breed to support your club and with a bit of luck you will have a few British lads on the pay roll in the next decade or two

This in a nutshell! I've been very complimentary about Leigh and they deserve a crack at SL again. However, some of the arrogance on show from fans and club officials alike is starting to grate a huge amount. Then again. It's probably rubbing off from "The Worlds Biggest Club" down the road!

| If , for arguments sake, it is assumed that the game on the field is the reason why RL exists and is the Key performance indicator, then all clubs should have the right to to try and reach the pinnacle. The fact that people want to deny this happening is why RL has suffered over the last few years. The game became elitist which is more akin to Rugby Union attitudes. One of Rugby leagues biggest strengths was a simple but fair system of if you want to play the game, you can and achieve all you want WITHOUT RESTRICTION. Denying teams the chance of even attempting to do this was RL biggest mistake. Soccer, a poor game IMO, in this country has a sucessful, money rich premiership system but does NOT deny teams the opportunity to join and even be reasonably successful.
I wish Leigh, and all the other clubs the best of luck in achieving their goal. They may not be ultimately successful but who really says they, and other teams, should not deserve the right to attempt the top?
RL should NOT be an elitist sport but seems to be getting that way.

| I think Leigh Fans are entitled to crow at the moment. For nearly a season and a half their team have been the "only game in town" when it comes to the championship and when faced with supposed superior opposition, the side has accounted themselves very well.
Of the Championship sides in the mix, I believe that they are the only hope of a team going up and if they do (I don't think they will BTW) their fans can rightly continue to crow.
If Wakefield prevail in the cup next month, I am sure these same crowing fans will happily consume some humble pie......and you can be sure that Wakefield will not be entering the field on May 17th with anything other than a desire to put down a market for later in the season!

Couldn't agree more,SL are locked in a world of their own, created by SKY..They think they are invincible because they carry the title of a SL team.Yet the Aussies again showed the level SL is at with their results.
You can only base results on facts, not assumptions. But the fact is that 4 SL teams will be meeting 4 Championship teams on level par come the middle 8's this season. Can the mighty SL live with those facts? We'll find out.

4 Teams with more central income and permission to have more foreign players and spend more money on their players wages will play 4 teams hamstrung by constraints that essentially make the middle 8 a ridiculous scenario. These are not "challenge cup" ties where the club pays little heed to the result unless they are potential winners, but games that could cost as much as 100k in lost revenue per result for the next seasons funding.......Leigh are best placed, but are still the massive underdogs when it comes to defeating Wakefield in the middle 8 million pound game.

Oh how I miss those glory days of pre-SL RL. Every game played to packed houses in modern stadia like Cougarville, we stuffed the Aussies every Ashes, clubs were rolling in money, the sun always shone, you could leave your front door open when you went to games. I was particualrly impressed mid 80s - mid 90s.

That didn't happen in a season Jim,thats been ongoing for 3 years, whilst the weaker sides of SL had the luxury of not being demoted, the championship sides had nothing to strive for (or did they?) within the league.
You can only work within the parameters set, whether you agree/disagree with them makes no difference.
Quote that essentially make the middle 8 a ridiculous scenario'"
The playoffs in SL carries the same ridiculous scenario..As a SL team you play all season to win the league, yet only the winner of the play offs is what everyone counts as being the winner.
And I surely for one wouldn't count on Wakefield being in that bottom 4 of SL..Theres still along way to go,but very detrimental to both leagues come the middle 8's is not money,it's injuries..

More than 5 isn't it?
Bradford have Mullaney, Uaisele, Purtell, Siejka, Davies, Ulugia, Henry and Lauaki. Plus Jean Phillipe Baille who I don't think counts being french. London have more than 5 too.
