I just don't think there are 'dirty' teams any more. There are individual players who are niggly, others that have poor technique (Morley used to be one of the worst for going high for this reason) and some that do engage in deliberate thuggery now and then. But this isn't the 60s or even the early 90s - matches are recorded and players get banned for violent play. It would be a very, very dumb coach indeed who regularly sent his side out with an intent to injure, as even with the RFL's inconsistencies, you'd expect a lot of players to be suspended.

Any theories as to why that might be the case?

Maguire was a black mark on RL in this country. Whilst coaches like Daniel Anderson and Brian McLennan won championships on the back of exciting Rugby league, Maguire set out to win at all costs, evident by the way Danny Maguire was seriously injured and laughed at on the floor by the wigan players as he writhed in agony. Then there has been the constant bending back of limbs, trying to seriously maim the opposition. Even Phil Clarke has jumped on the bandwagon with his disgusting comments about the Danny Maguire incident.

I think its fitting that the 2 fairest teams in the comp, who have been on the receiving end of Wigans tactics should contest the Grand Final and make it a proper family day out instead of the knuckle dragging, salivating neanderthals from Wigan, that would pour into manchester on grand final day.

I for one cant wait to mingle with the Leeds fans and have a beer with them, rather than having to watch my arms and legs, should wigan have got there.

Couldn't we have saved a lot of hot air and typing energy by just agreeing that (generally) supporters of all other sides have been on the receiving end of a brutal shalacking by the glorious Wigan RLFC at some point during the last two years. Watching their own players made to look like skittles in a bowling ally has brought back horrible memories of the not to distant past, when the Wigan of old where constantly pulling oppositions pants down on a weekly basis for a round a decade.

Now these supporters cry like babies over mythical "injuries" and "techniques" that simply do not exist, whilst at the same time performing a performing a nasty character assassination over a 22 year old boy whose mercurial skills and game winning attitude are ignored because he committed the most heinous crime of flicking the V's at a group of supporters that shouted obscenities and booed him whilst he represented their OWN national side.

These fans have united in showing themselves to be nothing more than vindictive, parochial and petty.

One one hand they proudly proclaim the our game is the most brutal of all and the players the toughest in the world of sport. On the other hand they spit the dummy out because the nasty Australasian Coach put a poster up in the dressing room describing opposition players as "roadkill"

Well according to the Wigan fans on their forum after the mighty Wigan had been stuffed twice by st Helens academy, supercoach maguire wasn't bothered about winning the grand final anyway.
