I wonder if that is within the rules of the Salary cap? Or whether the fact that he is a marquee signing means that none of that matters? Either way, sounds like a bit of a loop hole in the cap if this is not covered.

Having Sonny Bill Williams at Toronto, James "Jimmy Wins" Maloney at Catalans, and Manu Ma'u at Hull FC, there will be a fierce competition for Man of Steel in 2020.

Is this Kevin Brown the man with the very long neck that resembles the neck of a member of the Karen hill tribes in Burma? If the Man of Steel was awarded for neck length then Kevin Brown would be a shoe in. However general rugby league performance on a week by week basis is the criterion, so it is probably between Sonny Bill Williams and James "Jimmy Wins" Maloney. Please note that both those players were members of the NRL Grand Final winning Sydney Roosters team in 2013.

Nope. Kev Brown.
We know how accurate your predictions tend to be, Jean. They are more a, kiss of death, for a player than an endorsement.

Words you say as you crack one off in front of the mirror before logging in here as multiple posters and then totalfascistrl as Manfred Mann.
Simple bet for you.
If John Drake can confirm that i don't post on his toilet site, either as allora or anyone else, will you just off and leave us all alone?
This place used to be habitable 6 years or so ago, when you roamed as Barry, but christ on a bike they made some strange choices regarding what's OK and what isn't since.
So.....over to you Bazza. Straight yes or no. If Drake confirms that I no longer post there and am not allora, will you off?

| If true it works out at around £57,000 a week there will be entire superleague squads that won’t cost half of SBW wages, it’s staggering. Who’s that centre they have on £400,000 a year too ? Some wage bill but what an entertaining team they’ll have.
I can’t see it being sustainable, just as long as mr money bags is feeling generous, Keep it coming. He’ll certainly pull the viewers in. I can imagine some of those current players being on very good, inflated salaries to help them win the championship but will be under contract, will they pay off their contracts and bring in better players for similar salaries?

Ricky Leutele, £430,000 a year - Which makes him the highest paid centre in the world.

| Quote ="nottinghamtiger"Toronto’s signing of SBW is a double-edged sword.
On the one hand, it’s going to raise the profile of the club and of the competition.
On the other, I think they are going about the on-field success in the wrong way. We’ve seen time and time again that in RL, having a couple of superstars rather than a deep squad of good players never works. Apart from SBW, I don’t see many in that Toronto team who are SL standard. They’ve also used up both marquee spots.'"
What I don't quite get is that I thought their stadium was already limited to 10k so how many more fans can it drag in for Toronto?
So I don't think it is about income generation for Toronto, therefore the signing has to be for on field purposes rather than off-field

As a Penrith supporter it was not a winning Maloney for us. Brought in to partner our SOO scrumhalf for his last 2 seasons in the NRL,a team tipped to reach the top 4 finished 5th in 2018 and 10th last season.
As for Manu Ma'u for MOS you should get massive odds for that pick as over many years now the award has been awarded to spine players at No's1,6,7 and 9. Think the last second-rower to win it played for Bradford.

Smart play from Toronto to have a London press conference scheduled next week to announce SBW. All media outlets will be reporting, Rugby League in the UK is gonna grab some national media attention.
Hey you never know. We may get some big brands looking at Rugby League on the back of this news.
Toronto looking @ another big Rugby Union player

They give away a lot of free tickets, im not knocking that as it has built a fanbase and im always happy to see full grounds...but the next step has to be converting these fans into paying fans who will be lifelong fans. Signing a big name helps with that massively. Also helps bring in some TV deals for their home games.
This is massive for Super League, only bringing Sam Burgess home or signing Owen Farrell would have been on a par in terms of generating media interest.

| Sonny Bill Williams is a big name in New Zealand, Australia, England, the Pacific Islands and pretty much anywhere where kids grow up playing with a rugby ball.
North American kids grow up with a baseball, NFL ball, Basketball, soccer ball or hockey puck. The comparisons to Beckham are moot, given that the MSL was already up and running and in the main, had tapped into the Hispanic populations and ex-pat Europeans for fans.
Either code of Rugby is decades away from scratching the surface of the landscape of North America, but as long as Argyle is willing to throw his cash at it, then so be it, but he's making a mockery of the cap and why we have it. If he signs SBW and Tuilagi from Union, then those 2 together with the highest paid in the world will be costing more than any other SL squad....
...and then still, why? Will a NA TV deal be signed on the back of a few unknown players? Doubtful. Will they shoe-horn any more fans into the beer tent? Aren't they already at capacity? Will Toronto win SL with the current squad and a couple of marquee players. Not a chance.....so what is Argyles point, other than showing how much money he has?

The signing of Leicester and England rugby union Test centre Manu Tuilagi would be an enormous boost for Toronto, as he would be the partner to recently acquired ace centre Richard Leutele (I don't know what would happen to Toronto's current other centre Chase Stanley). The linking of Sonny Bill Williams with either Leutele or Tuilagi as an edge combination will be devastating to the other Super League clubs. Lots of tries will come from their combination.
However Toronto still needs to sign a quality half and two good props in order to be a good chance of winning Super League.
On the other hand all these signings mean that Toronto will definitely be in the Super League playoffs, and will give the powerful clubs such as St Helens, Wigan, Warrington and Catalans a good run for their money.

How have I written them off?
I deliberately wrote "the powerful clubs such as..." thereby leaving open the possibility that there could be some powerful clubs other than the ones I named.
