That's because Voss is a proper sports journalist...he puts in the effort....learns some stuff...which is what all commentators should do before any sporting event. Eddie just turns up....unfortunately.

I usually end up turning the sound off when watching Warrington play....the bias against is unbearable.

I totally agree with the original post...time for a big shake up and get some proper talent in...like Voss.

I'd be happy for someone like Voss to do remote commentary from Australia with him just watching it on a screen, like Sky do with the Catalan home games, only better

With a hefty amount of luck and some forward thinking within the RFL, SKY won't be broadcasting ESL after the next contract runs out. But sadly it'll be same old crud and continue to not only drag the game backwards but putting up with Eddie and co not to mention the overall contempt SKY shows the sport.

??? I don’t understand your point . Paul Cooke isn’t a journalist . His autobiography was written by Adrian Durham . And Ray French was an excellent commentator.

I find the Catalans home games awful to watch and the commentary is dire .

Are you questioning the match calling of William Arthur, or just the commentary of Barrie McDermott, Terence O'Connor and Phillip Clarke?

William Arthur is fine. It is just the other aforenamed who drag the broadcast down.

Just to educate you, an autobiography is written by the subject of the book. One written by someone else is simply a biography. Ray French (great player that he was) is not, and never will be,a good commentator.

I never said Paul could commentate . Paul sat down with Adrian and talked about his life , rugby career his Mum etc , it was Adrian who wrote the book.

In my opinion Ray was a great commentator , a legend.

Ray French knows the height, weight and former amateur club of every single player in SL. This is what sets him apart from the amateurs at sky sports

Can’t say I mind Eddie too much, he just needs pairing with someone a bit more knowledgeable, or rather who can get the technical points across better. Sky have let RL coverage stagnate to the point you know they only really have it on as air filler now. The contrast between the NRL is staggering really, not just on the pitch, in every single aspect of the sport they have us shown up as amateurs. I’m beyond losing sleep about it now though sadly.

Re: commentary, one thing that bugs me nowadays is listening to a game on the radio. There’s a big difference required between being a radio and tv commentator, yet I don’t think this is always appreciated. You need to be so much more descriptive when calling a radio game so that the listener knows what is happening, but these days they seem to just talk whilst the game carries on as if it’s tv and the listener can see what’s happening. BBC Manchester are awful for it. It’s always a contrast when listening to a Wigan/Hull game on Radio Humberside for example and switching to the latter to find out what’s actually going on.

He managed to get ‘maybe’ into one sentence three times last night, all wrong.

Totally agree. Radio 5 is terrible for this; they spend so much time talking the only thing they end up commentating on is the kicks. They miss out what's happening for tries, and very rarely tell you were the ball is on the field.
