Fair to say some clubs are better at retaining their grown grown player than others but that doesnt necessarily mean other clubs are poor at developing them as sky would let us believe.
For EG we have brought the following players through but for one reason or another not been able to keep them
Mark Flanagan
John Batemanan
Jamie Peaccok
Chris Bridge
Ryan Atkins
Joe Wardle
Larne Patrick
Craig Kopczak
Brett Ferre
Leon Pryce
Elliott Whitehead
Jamie Langley
Jason Crookes
Paul Sykes
Richard Moore
along with Sam Goerge and Tom Burgess
Thats up there if not better than any club in SL but dont be fooled as its only Wigan Saint and Leeds that develop youngsters!
'"
Involving players from other clubs is a whole other story. Wigan Leeds and saints have plenty dotted around the leagues as well. For saints, we have graham (international), eastmond (international) and smith(double winner and lance Todd winner ... Not that I'm bitter) to go along with more players who make up super league sides (like Jamie Ellis, who played today) - retention is one thing, sure, but you named 17 players who made the cut in how many years? There are 22/37 in saints squad this year, there were 11/17 who beat Leeds at LP - as I say, saints are still a way behind Leeds and Wigan (which is why our 1-17 home grown is a lot younger) but were producing more every year now - No one is saying saints Leeds and Wigan are the [ionly[/i teams who produce youngsters. Were in a position where most teams can put 18-25 of there squad as youngsters they have developed. But it's about how many of them are actually likely to feature and become regulars?

| Sorry for delaying the entire thread. My original post was regarding a comment made on SL back chat that said only Leeds, Saints, Wigan seem to concentrate on youth. My point was that this isnt true. Many teams develop youth players to an excellent standard and put a lot of hard work in to youth development. Not just Saints, Leeds and Wigan (they are the best at it) I would just like to see other clubs getting the credit they deserve for developing the Burgess brothers, Bateman, Clark Etc
As you were

More interestingly, koukash stated at the start of the year they were spending up to the cap, so logic dictates if a big hitter like Locke (who won't be cheap) is on his way in, whose the counterbalance on the way out?

He never actually stated this. He said Salford had a small space on the cap, believed to be from pulling out of a deal for Dixon from London when he suffered a bad injury.
I'd imagine Salford could swerve the cap issue by paying him the remainder of their cap space for this year, with the promise of a potential increase on next years salary to make up the difference.
Al hypothetical of course. Will be interesting to see if there are any issues.

He definitely is quoted as saying he will be spending up to the cap - apologies if he failed but you have also signed Michael Platt in that time - so unless you were planning on spending massive overs for him, there's not gonna be a lot left in the kitty, even to see Locke through to the end of the year and a pay increase all conjecture of course!
It'll be very interesting to see how koukash handles his outgoing players to balance out his incoming ones.

Interesting timing given the rumour Tim Smith was sent home from training and told to find another club.....

I agree. I'm not claiming to be any sort of expert on the cap, however by the time Locke gets his visa they'll probably be under 10 games left this year, so it's not like they are gonna be paying him a full years salary.

Is Locke coming over early, before the end of the season?
If not I don't see how Salford could pay him out of this years salary cap as he wouldn't be a Salford player yet.

Possibly not. Although we were told the same with Chase, so I'm happy to wait and see what happens rather than pretending to be an expert on visa applications on an internet forum.
