| Quote ="JB Down Under"When the PNG Govt can organise clean running water and childhood education to their population then I will consider them ready to take on the challenge of running an NRL club!
I'm all for working with them to get jnr RL academies improved, to get more Kumul tests via a decent stadium being built and working towards a Q'land cup team. When they can achieve those things, then in a couple of decades when they are no longer a corrupt basketcase they can be considered for an NRL license.'"
lol can the WA government organize a stadium with drainage

| Quote ="Jonesy"Saying something and doing it are very different things though.
The PNG Government gets a lot of aid from Australia and NZ and Japan, I am not sure if that building a Stadium will be seen as a good reason to pump more aid into a country that has plenty of health, education and infrastructure problems.
Why does everyone think having an NRL team will solve a countries problems and be some sort of magic wand to fix all ills?
The ability for PNG to attract Sponsors is really limited, the fact Coca-Cola is a major sponsor means nothing unless the amount of the Sponsorship is known, Coke sponsor many things but its not always big money it could be a simple as the Team gear and free soft drinks.
What would a sponsor get for the money in a country that has nothing?
Would the games that the PNG team play, draw wide interest on Australian TV or with the viewers? I don't think so, once they have been flogged regularly they would not be seen on TV again for a long time.
Hey its only my opinion but the Country has far more pressing issues than playing in the NRL at the moment.'"
Don't try and pass off opinion as fact in your argument, otherwise it looks daft.
The fact that the building of a stadium with regular attenders will boost the economy, possibly significantly for a place as poor as PNG for many years. It will give jobs to many. It will increase the number of people coming IN to the country. It will put the country more in the shop window. It will boost national moral. It could also house other sports and put them in the shop window those ways. It provides new opportunities.
It won't be a miracle cure to all of PNG's problems. But to say it would do nothing is daft. The money it would eventually would bring in would easily cover the cost of building it.

You obviously missed the part where I said "I don't think so" that is me expressing my opinion.
You being in the North of England are obviously better informed about the NRL and PNG than I am from what you have read on the Net.
The fact that if a Stadium was ever built it would be done in the main by imported tradies from Oz and NZ getting paid over the odds.
HOW will it boost the economy?
You do realise PNG has few Tradesmen? The Mines import virtually all their skilled workers.
Who will the stadium bring in?
Which other Sports do PNG compete in that the Stadium will host?
What is that "Shop Window" selling exactly?
Can you tell me how a struggling team will generate good TV numbers?
Australian teams generate support from both teams support base, who in Oz is supporting PNG?
How do the Catalans team do both with crowds in England and TV ratings?
Its not rocket science is it?
The Cowboys and Canberra do not rate so well on TV in Oz because they have a small support base.
The Australian Prime Ministers team has received less and less publicity in the Australian media over the last decade in Australia, it barely gets a mention nowadays.
Often the players picked have become more obscure, not all but many.
There is always a question mark over the condition of the ground and the crowd control and safety.
Sure a one off game against Australia could easily be improved on week in week out against Club sides.
Maybe if England could get France competing and get a team based there that are not full of imports, that may be more realistic than PNG barely out of the Stone Age to be playing in the NRL.
How many French players are plying their trade in England at the top level? 2, 5 10?
How many English players are plying their trade in France? a few miles over the Channel, Less English than Australians?
You should worry more about local issues than PNG which you obviously know little about.

I love it when people use this as some kind of evidence that their opinion has more weight.
Would you tell a mechanic who doesn't drive that you know more about cars than them just because you own and drive one?
Or a child minder who has worked with kids all their lives but doesn't have any of their own that you know more about kids just because the condom broke once?

For someone who claims to be so smart, you are asking some simple questions.
Are the only jobs at the stadium related to the build? Are there no other jobs, like catering, cleaning, stewarding, etc? Are these all going to be flown in too? Not exactly difficult jobs.
How will it boost the economy? Well won't the club be sponsored? Receive TV money like all other clubs? See more people travel to the country? See workers who are traveling spend money in the country? Have more jobs for people who in turn will spend their money in the country?
Who will the stadium bring in? Who do you bloody think? Crocodiles?!
Who else will play? Well they play RU over there, and used to play football until recently (but this could see a return in that). There's a couple straight away.
And the "shop window" is a term used to describe showing off sportspeople and countries in a bigger stage, basically advertising them to the world so that people are aware of them and may travel to see them or look at sponsoring or bringing these players over to them.
You being from Australia, I thought you'd already have all these answers?
Quote ="Jonesy"Can you tell me how a struggling team will generate good TV numbers?'"
Can you tell me why you know they'll be struggling first? Internationally, they seem to do OK with a pretty much semi-pro squad. Imagine if they were FT.
And they are still well supported when they get stuffed against the big teams.
Quote ="Jonesy"Australian teams generate support from both teams support base, who in Oz is supporting PNG?'"
And yet games involving two Sydney teams still manage to pull sub-20k crowds. Good support base there!
Quote ="Jonesy"How do the Catalans team do both with crowds in England and TV ratings?'"
What has that to do with anything?
Quote ="Jonesy"Its not rocket science is it?'"
Thank God, because you'd be even more clueless. Even though you've been on a rocket ride at a theme park once...
Quote ="Jonesy"The Cowboys and Canberra do not rate so well on TV in Oz because they have a small support base.

Surely the crowd argument as a reason TO have a better safer stadium?

There are more French people at English clubs than there has been since I've started watching. That's the shop window. Not that this has anything to do with PNG.

France is local?! Looks like you need a map.
No doubt if I worried about that, there'd be another condescending n0b like yourself telling me my opinion doesn't matter because I'm not French!
I worry about all of RL, and don't think my locality should be an issue into what I worry about. But I'll bare all of this in mind next time you have an opinion on SL...

| Wellsy13,
Do you get all worked up in a lather as you break down your replies point by point?
Take a deep breath Mate.
I think your tactic is something like this, compile a reply point by point, long and very often wrong.
Its that long winded that the person you reply to cant be d doing the same boring crap in response and move on.
I disagree with you on pretty well everything, we will not know who is right or wrong, but I am CERTAIN I know more about PNG than you do and have an opinion that is better informed and based on first hand knowledge, which I doubt you can claim.

Not at all lad. In fact I was laughing at most of your post as I broke it down with logical and informed responses.
Quote ="Jonesy"I think your tactic is something like this, compile a reply point by point, long and very often wrong.

My tactic is to indeed reply to posts point by point, basically so a poster can see every illogical thing they've said and has no excuse to miss bits out on a reply.
If they don't respond to parts, it's their way of showing that they have no reply or can't be that sure. If you get bored reading answers to your own questions then don't ask them.
Quote ="Jonesy"I disagree with you on pretty well everything, we will not know who is right or wrong, but I am CERTAIN I know more about PNG than you do and have an opinion that is better informed and based on first hand knowledge, which I doubt you can claim.'"
You've not actually offered any argument though. All you've basically said in too rather long posts yourself is "I'm from Australia, therefore I know more about PNG."
You showed how much you know about sports development when you didn't know what the "shop window effect" was, and business when you didn't know how a sports team would grow the economy. For these reasons, I am sure I know more about the actual subject than you do, but won't use that as the argument. I'll let my points and logic do the talking whilst you sit there with your fingers in your ears (or covering your eyes in Internet world) when all the hard questions come about.

It's no more ludicrous than suggesting the safety of a person in a jungle in PNG has any bearing on having an NRL team there. And that's the point.

Just about sums up PNG's priority to the NRL. Cloud cuckoo land, RL hasn't succesfully gone out of two states and a part of NZ in 100 years at top prof level in Oz, it will be decades before PNG is even considered valuable and developed enough to host an NRL team. For starters amongst the thousand other reasons for not inclusing them they need jnr academies and feeder systems plus players already playing 1st grade NRL to be able to form a team at some point as no foreign player is ever going to sign for them so they will be 100% reliant on home grown talent. There is 20 years+ of work right there.
