Could do much worse, though as it is a full-time job he has ruled himself out. I would love to see him take over from Le Bobbie as the French coach (when Le Bobbie takes over at Catalans...)

Wakefield fans are very appreciative of what Kear did and has done for the club, on the other hand some Hull FC supporters think he's pap.

Well we won the CC, but we were the most inconsistent team in the league in 2005 (I think there was a 3 month period that season were we didn't win or lose more than one game on the bounce, and luckily the CC games fell on those weeks that we won!). Then we got knocked out of the play-offs 71-0, and then got beat 4 games out of 5 the next season in SL (including 46-0 at home) followed by being knocked out of the cup.
Kear was poor in the league at Hull during his entire time at the club, and got knocked out of the cup at the first attempt the year after so couldn't have a saving grace.

His inability to control the players was a huge problem, which resulted in some of our senior players basically threatening to leave if he didn't get canned.

| Is it ok if we conduct a hate campaign against him for the remainder of his career? I believe it's the tradition with Paul Cooke transfers.
I for one wish him all the best at Wakefield except when they play us of course and thank him for the part he played in keeping us in SL.

| My opinion:
John Kear is one of the best tactical coaches this game has ever seen. He can spot & highlight a player's or team's strengths and weaknesses, like no one else I have ever known. I once told Shaun McRae that Kear was the best signing he'd ever made at Hull, a statement that I will always defend. I first encountered John Kear when he was coaching Castleford's 'A' team and was immediately impressed with his knowledge of The Laws of the Game and especially how to work around them.
When he arrived at Hull FC, the first thing he did was hand every 1st team squad member a dossier on themselves, highlighting their own particular strengths & weakenesses and what opposition teams did to negate or exploit them. He is an excellent reader of a game and of individual players.
What he is not, is a manager.
He appears too close to the players, every game he watches, you know he wants to be out there, playing every ball and making every tackle.
Promoting him to Manager at Hull had its good and bad points, yes he brought us silverware but his management style also caused upheaval that lasted long after his departure. But it seemed like a good (and cheap) option at the time.
The best thing that could happen to John and the game is for him to realise his shortcomings and a club to realise just what his strengths are and pay him accordingly. He is worth a fortune as anyone's assistant, he just ain't up to the top job. But ,aybe that's why Bob Diamond earns more than the CEO of Barclays?
