| So, Iestyn appointed head coach. One RL reporter saying on Twitter that Nobby 'left' this morning. Dr Koukash tweeting that he's been 'offered the job of "Director of Football". Any views, fannies?

| Very strange decision and not what Salford need at all.
That's no criticism of Harris just Salford needed stability.
The Dr had to learn success won't just magically appear, he's got to give it time.
A step backward for Salford in my opinion.

| Some people benefitted from Nobles appointment.
Sadly the owner, the fans and Brian Noble are not.
Harris MAY turn things round, but the tools at his disposal currently are not the sharpest or newest in the box.
I don't think I am alone in seeing this happen.

| I remember the opening day of the season when Wakefield travelled to Salford. After watching Salford narrowly beat Trinity, I stayed and listened to Dr Koukash, who lavished praise on Noble and called him the biggest and most important signing for Salford.
6 weeks down the line the Dr's changed his mind dramatically! The side simply isn't as good as Koukash believes, heck they've Tommy Lee at hooker! I don't think any coach would have them any higher in the league table especially considering it's basically a completely new squad.
Noble wouldn't have made them champions or top 4 challengers, but he would have stabilised them and probably got them contesting the top 8 which I believe to be a success

| Koukash is obviously an impatient man.
Noble, unless he is independently wealthy, should take the Director of Rugby job until someone else comes a calling for him.
Harris may have learned something from Shaun Wayne, who is obviously a very good coach. But the question that remains to be answered is whether he has learned enough to improve the side's performance, compared to what Noble could have done. The key thing is that the team is newly assembled, and needs time to gel.
The lesson out of all of this is, if you are looking for job tenure, never apply for a job with Dr Koukash.

| Strange timing for all of this as well - it's not usual to sack <ahem> transition a coach after a dramatic extra time win against a team who had comprehensively beaten them just a week before ... Is it?
You'd of thought, the players, fans and club would be riding the high of that win for the coming weeks, all this does is bring everyone crashing down to earth

| So the 'good doctor' sacked Phil Vievers after 5 games, and has now 'removed' Brian Noble after 7 games ! Nothing against the guy at all, but he hasn't a clue how a 'sports club/team' should be run. What the hell is he expecting from Salford, he hasn't bought an 'all star xiii' full of top internationals. In truth, has improved the team a lot, but there are only a handful of players that 'say' teams who finished in the top 5 of SL last season, would want themselves. A few are 'past their best' although still good players.
Don't envy Iestyn Harris at all.....how long will Dr Cluecash give him ????

| With the squad at Salford, I don't quite know what the Dr was expecting. It's a team that, at best, will be in contention for 8th place (and that's aided by poor Wakefield, Bradford and London teams) and they're currently 9th.
Unless Noble himself wanted a move away from coaching and so instigated this himself (very unlikely) then it's a very strange move.

Dr Koukash has said that he made the decision to remove Noble from his position.

| Maybe he thinks its like football where you have to sack the manager/coach if you have spent x amount of money and arent runnign away with the league !!
Their squad on paper is not that good when all's said and done - not quite the superstars he promised !

| He has subsequently tweeted that since his wife was not successful in her bid for Bradford, she is now going to spend the money on any players that Harris may need, suggesting that RU players do not count on the cap.
Maybe Koukash has come to believe that Nobby's choice of team wasn't so good? Koukash paid for that team and is therefore entitled to expect players capable of producing to his expectations. It would appear, for example, that he has two very hard working forwards in the two Salford lads (one being a very old lad!) but Puletua, for example, was a bad choice - I could have told Koukash that for free! So this decision may not be simply results driven.

| I believe the rule is that Union players wouldn't count on the cap for the first year and then 50% of their salary the 2nd year. With clubs restricted to a max of 2 of these players.

Correct. New talent pool players must have never played league be over the age of 21 and fit a few more things too.
They count for 0 in the first full cap year they are registered (now until next feb) and then 50% the subsequent year! and then 100% in the third year and beyond. - if anyone is lined up, they be better keeping them deregistered until next year, to get a full year off the cap.

| He thinks he can buy his way out of everything - how about he try and actually restructure the club properly, starting with the youth development. Marwan is clearly an impatient guy and instead of putting money into a few home grown kids, he's out searching for guys to switch codes??

Please get your facts right. He has invested thousands already in Salford Youth and has the best `head` at that level in Alan Hunte who he meets to discuss improvements on a regular basis. The club has invested in a spectacular new gym and has the uses now of AW pitches at the Stadium. The Chairman has been fantastic for the club and the sport in general.

Is the gym first team only? Do the 19s have access as well? What about the 16s? It's great having pitches and gyms for the first team, but being able to provide them for all at the club, and make it as seemless as possible as the players move through the age groups is what's best ... And most expensive.
Can you honestly say he's invested as much as he's offered for "marquees"? Do you think he spends more than anyone else on the subject? It is after all, completely uncapped, and has no restriction for any team to spend big. I've kept an eye out for the Salford 19s results, and whilst I appreciate they've stepped back into the top division, they're also not blowing the world away.
I don't doubt koukash has spent on the youth team... But I don't think he's spent as much as he could have (from what I've seen)

| Well Noble was happy to take the job after Vievers got short shrift. So hard to feel any sympathy. He will have a nice pay day and the next coach can have fun for a few weeks.

Not really, he only had months left on his contract. Another clever Koukash move, offered Noble an 18 month contract only.
I wish people would give it a rest regarding Koukash and Salford's youth set up. The bloke has been in charge just over 12 months, what more could he have done? First priority should and has been sorting the first team out. Even during this time he has improved our academy set up no end, the facilities have improved, the youth teams are kitted out for the first time in years, they train with the first team each week and this is just the very start.
He's bringing in the highly rated Shane Flanagan for the remainder of the season to act on a consultancy basis with his task to implement youth strategies for the Red Devils.
It seems like youth set up is an easy stick to beat Koukash with, when it isn't and just highlights your ignorance and lack of knowledge of anything Salford Red Devils.

| For me, Harris isn't head coach material as his time at Crusaders and as Welsh coach would seem to show. I'm not that suprised to see Nobby go, however. I feel that his two years away from coaching has shown, although with all his contacts he could do a good job as Director of Rugby.

You won't find many disagreeing, seems odd to replace Noble with a coach with limited experience. I suppose he's an unknown quantity.
Regarding Noble though, our rugby has been poor this season. Fortunately Sean Long has come back and v Cas and Hull our attacking pay improved no end. He was the right choice at the time due to his contacts and his contract wouldn't have been renewed at the end of the year but its still ruthless. Sport can be at times though.

I don't get what your point is. I doubt that any team invests more money into its youth team than the first team.
People are always making the point that it'll take time for us to get a good enough squad in place to challenge for honours in Super League. Why would the youth team suddenly dominate every other team after about 12 months of increased investment?
