That's an hour of my life I'll never get back. 60 minutes on union fans slagging off League and League fans slagging off union.

One of the Union tweets cracked me up - "Rugby League doesn't have tactical play"

Don't bother listening to it back, just have the debate in your mind, with one half saying League is crap and the other saying Union is pants.

I'd prefer it if someone like George Riley and John Inverdale were having the debate.

Joking aside, you can see from some Twitter comments on this why the twain will never meet. One guy, annoyed that the League fans were knocking kicks, suggested that kicks are the best part of the game, so we should change the scoring to 5 points for a goal and just 1 point for a try!

What did come across from one or two authoritative figures ( including ex Sports Minister Andy Burnham ) is that, whichever code anyone prefers, there is undoubtedly an unjustified heavy media bias towards Union. You could argue ( as RU is the more international game ) that more coverage is justified, but the current ratio, probably ten RU columns to one for RL, is not reflective of the UK popularity of the two.

I'd like to hear that.

I didn't listen to it but I saw a quote on the BBC site from Bobby Goulding?

I'd be interested in viewing the intricacies of the thought process which led to Mr Goulding's name being put forward as a viable contributor to an insightful debate...

The views he expressed about a certain Sky pundit was spot on though

He ripped into Stevo a lot saying that he talks about personalities rather than the game and doesn't know what he's talking about etc

To be fair to Goulding he wasn't as bad as I first feared and he raised an issue saying scrums in RL should be scrapped which is a fair call

He was hilarious.

I listened to the whole thing and the only things that became apparent to me were that we think our game is the best and the yawnion gang think there's is. The only area where they beat us is in the promotion of their game (not difficult to do as our PR is rubbish). It would help greatly if the BBC were not so blatantly pro-union and anti-league.

I caught Martin Offiah's contribution.

He talked a bit about being brought up on Union but playing League and summarised his position thusly, "You could say, I'm a child of two parents." It was brilliantly insightful.

I'm not sure 'Union or League - which is best?' was ever going to create the most intelligent debate, but I guess that's the nature of these phone-in shows. As a regular 5Live listener, I'm happy to say that it probably wasn't Nicky Campbell's greatest moment.

This whole League vs Union arguement really es me off, why can't the two codes just get on and if we are going to have a pop at another sport, make it football.

The whole League vs Union thing just makes me think of that bit on Life of Brian where they try to kidnap the emperors wife but just all end up fighting over who was here first.

In a strange way I hope League never becomes as popular as Union because it would then be watched by 60% of the people who have no real interest or knowledge of the game.

I always think of League as an underground elitist sport.
