| They look low compared to the size of the crowds that these clubs do attract
The Rhinos will have >10k season ticket holders for an average crowd of 16-17K - so Newcastle with 5k for and average crowd of 20k they are relying on a big walk in crowd
I only know for Leeds having a season ticket ensures you get to view the game from where you want e.g. if you want to stand in the southstand you have to have a season ticket, that stand holds about 6,000 - are these benefits not the same in the NRL?
Also you get priority for GF and CC final although I am not convinced that is a real benefit as there are always plenty of tickets available from the RFL

| manly seem to be the only side struggling to get near last years total, the rest are nearly there. credit to the sharks, bulldogs and eels who have passed last years total already. the eels have been slow this past month but they are stepping up there campaign this month with a fan day at parra town hall, so i think they can get well over 6000 ST.

confuses me to, but perhaps a lot of people just arent aware of the benefits yet, given the clubs have only started taking it seriously this past 2 years.
i've done a bit of maths and the sydney clubs total ST are 4% off last years total with plenty of time to go and the league as a whole is 18% off, but a large reason for this is that the storm memberships have only went on sale.

cronulla offer zero.
and the roosters are s**t too.
if cronulla and easts moved to expansion areas id be very happy.
and if you had read the table properly youd see they had the lowest total last year

| oh what wit! The ironic thing is that in our first year back in the JB cup we had a membership only a couple of hundred less than Cronullas total!
Give us a chance and we'll show you how its done! 3 teams in Perth have mnembership numbers NRL clubs would die for.

| Yeah, the Reds showd us with their 8k average in their last 2 seasons that they belonged in the NRL.
Plenty of places deserve a team before Perth.
And Eels....

and before SL BS kicked off was higher than ANY Sydney club bar Manly?

Grasping at straws.
8k straight after the honeymoon period was unacceptable in a one-team city.
There were 11 Sydney teams in 1995 and not one of those teams was new. Illawarra, Crushers, Wests, Balmain and the GC either went kerplunk or merged. Replacing any of the remaining teams with another underperforming, but very expensive team to run, would have been stupid. Perth had to go and don't deserve a team, yet. 20 or 30 years in the future, maybe.
Perth is a waste of time at the moment. It only deserves a game a year. The only reason the Farce have had reasonable crowds is the because thousands of Saffas fled there when Mandela took over. They aren't interested in Rugby League and I doubt they ever will be.
Perth can wait until the CC, NZ (2nd side), Brisbane (2nd side), PnG, Adelaide, Mudgee, Grong Grong, Nudgee, Upper Cumbucta West and Crookwell have teams as far as I'm concerned.

no I'm comparing apples with apples. You might not like it but the FACT is that at the time the Reds crowds were comparable to alot of teams and better than most Sydney teams.
To suggest Perth can't support a team, with some groundwork done by the ARL/NRL first, is ignorant in the extreme. You are a typical flat capper with no idea about what our great game needs in order to take it to the No1 Winter footy code spot. Keep enjoying your NSWRL suburban football matey.

It's not 1983.
New teams need to hit the ground running these days, like the Titans have. Gone are the days when the competition can afford to hold a new team up until it gets popular and that rarely worked anyway.
The only new team that have been held up in recent times is Melbourne and that's only because News have put their own money into them.
Perth doesn't have a decent rectangular stadium, the travel budget will be over the top, the support just isn't there and there is no white knight prepared to bankroll Perth for 10 years of losses.
You can whine all you like but it simply isn't likely to happen. If News had wanted it, it would already have happened and I can't see the new commission putting Perth in front of areas that are Rugby League strongholds.
As for the "national" rubbish, at the moment AFL have all the advantages, they get Fox Sports 1 on Fox, they have saturation coverage all over the country whilst the NRL gets midnight or worse replays in Vic, WA and SA. Yet when it came to the crunch, the AFL came second.
The NRL has teams where the AFL will never have teams. For the AFL to match what the NRL has, it would need to put teams in Wollongong, Newcastle, NQ, New Zealand and Canberra. For the NRL to match the AFL two teams would need to be put in, one in Adelaide and one in Perth.
We don't need Adelaide and Perth. Combined they don't even make up the areas covered by the non-Sydney and Non-Brisbane Qld NRL teams.
The only chance Perth or Adelaide have in the forseeable future is if a Sydney team like the Sharks decides to relocate.
So, it looks like you'll just have to follow Union and AFL like you do now.

| MES has been promised an upgrade
15,500 at an NRL game last year
Producing NRL first teamers already due to a strong jnr league
Opens up a whole new market for fans, viewers and sponsors
The wealthiest city in the country
One of the fastest growing populations
Full of Q'landers, NSW men and Northern Poms
Supporting a professional team in EVERY code except NRL
yep we've got no hope!
anyway I thought this thread was about NRL memberships. If you want to debate the merits of a Perth team start a new thread.
Melbourne's memberships just released. Range from $90 for a country membership to $430 for top seats. I'm going to get the interstate one at $80 to ensure I get tickets to the stadiums opening weekend.

last year's sales aren't really relevant. kudos for the big increase if anything. if we'd judged clubs on such short-term basis' we would have shafted the rabbitohs a few years ago, and now they're thriving. for the record, i hate the sharks, but, fair go, as they say. I think this whole campaign is going well so far, it's such a good idea, and i think every team will crack 5000. I'm so glad these figures are being made public, so that some clubs will, if nothing else be embarrassed into pushing season tickets.

| thank frick for that, I'd rather watch our SG Ball side than support a West Coast Sharks! I'm sure that massive 2,500 membership is going to solve all their financial problems.
Some of those figures are pathetic, Widnes probably have more members than 1/2 the Sydney clubs!
[size=85[iPlease note: Figures are accurate as of 7/02/2010. Figures only include Ticketed Membership numbers for the clubs which will be less than the total membership number for each club. [/i[/size
