Well, he has a long way to go but this is the best way for him to improve quickly so we'll see how he gets on.

He's one of the better ones of a corrupt and morally indiscriminate bunch of losers.

Truth is that the RFL needs to spend a bit more to generate the quality of individuals we need. Those in charge now are just plucky volunteers, the standards don't differ much from your average amateur ref. Using former players is one idea they could look at. Tommy Martyn would make a good referee.

What about Sean Long and Martin Gleeson, do you think they would make good refs?

He's dreadful.

During the first half of the Cas v Celtic match, Mr Childs just had no control of the game in my opinion. Then he penilised Cas about 6 tackles in a row for not having both feet behind the line (this could be picked up in every game), and then the sin binning of Shenton was comical.

And before people start saying why dont you give it a go, i have looked in this and the nearest course is in Manchester in June i believe. Surely with Yorkshire having such a large amount of rugby league supporter, there should be an induction course within the area.

...and don't ask any Leyther what they think of him. In fact several championship clubs had less than positive 'reviews' of his performances

i think he was the ref in charge when oldham beat widnes in a nrc game last season, he sent a widnes player off and ste mccomic got the sack due to that loss so he was good for somthing

Been hopelessly out of his depth every time I have seen him in NL1/Championship, so heaven only knows

except he isnt full time......he is only training 2 days a week, and retaining his job at Leeds City Council.

Wonder what Karl Kirkpatrick thinks about this, seeing as though he had to retire because all refs had to be full time.

think hes reffing the hull derby this weekend

We can do 2 things to improve the refereeing:
1 - Replace Stuart Cummings

2 - Introduce a 2nd on-field ref

The game is far too fast for 1 ref to be able to keep the defence onside and monitor the play the ball. They can't be in 2 places at once.

=#8000FFIt was more like a foot "injury" he was beyond poor so Pressley replaced him it was as simple as that, the referees physio didn't move from in front of the radio broadcasters, Jamie Bloem mentioned this as a reason for ruling out an injury serious enough to have a ref replaced.

Seriously, he really is very poor. I can name at least five other Championship referees who are better qualified than him, IMO at least, to make the step up to SL. Incidentally, the five I could name are cr*p too, its just that they are on a better level of cr*pness than Mr.Child.

Agreed, the 'Fev away match in the NRC still haunts me. He seems to try and let the game flow but quickly loses control of the match and becomes card happy in order to try and calm things down.

I think it great, at least we dont have to deal with him anymore. SL are welcome to him

Everyones always got a problem with the referees especially in the Championship. The best I heard was 'we lost by 6 points only because the ref cheated.......'
Let him have his pop and see what he's like.

Top and bottom of it we need two referees. You shouldn't even need a great standard you just need two.
The refs in SL have been a lot, lot better since the introduction of full time but people still swear they're right even after multiple replays on a big screen.

The only problem with this is that "the referee at the top end of the pitch is a w*nker" doesn't quite have the same ring to it.
