| Hunt is changing over to aerial ping pong.
[urlhttp://www.smh.com.au/news/lhqnews/karmichael-hunt-to-join-afl/2009/07/29/1248546753089.html[/url
No doubt the doom and gloom brigade will and the Goebbels inspired yawnion propaganda departments will be trying to paint this as the end of the NRL but I'm not at all fussed.
Good as he is, he isn't even Queensland's first choice full back and like all the other high profile "losses" he will be quickly forgotten. Meanwhile the AFL have put a lot money into a very high risk signing, something that hopefully will come back to bite them hard.

| Only the best athletes (RL I'm talking about) in the world can make the transition to AFL and Union cause they have every skill you can think of.Don't know wether a AFL player can handle the force of impact in RL that's why none have crossed over,as for KMH he would kill it in AFL as there isn't much skill involved besides fumbling the ball every 2 seconds.

| Agreed, simply have no time for these players who clear off to another sport at the first opportunity.
Jeez, whatever happened to loyalty or playing for the love of the game.
It shows one thing though...the union 'challenge' ain't all its cracked up to be with Wendell and Mat Rogers having come back (seen the light) and Timana Tahu about to do the same and foregoing a wedge of money to do so. They've all realised - its probably as bad to play as it is to watch.
I simply can't understand why anyone who can play the Greatest Game to such a high standard would want to leave in his pomp.
But then again I can't understand why a Kiwi would want to play for Australia. Apparently, he did that so he could play for Queensland in Origin...why, now, would he want to walk away from Origin football ?
Goodbye and good riddance Karmichael !

| Although most code changes are usually financially motivated, I wonder how much the poor reputation and media image of the NRL at present is a contributing factor to these kind of shifts.
It seems to be getting to the point where some players are actually ashamed of their occupation. The NRL may be the pinnacle of world RL on the field but off the field it is a complete shambles. Unless the sport gets its act together it could easily be eclipsed by other sports in the Sydney area. In this sense the NRL could do well to follow the example of SL, where the game is still a family sport and players on the whole are well behaved. The antics of Hock, Pryce etc pale into insignificance next to some of the stories appearing [iweekly [/iin the media in Australia.

The AFL becoming bigger that the NRL in Sydney is one of the signs of the apocalypse. The Sydney media are always looking for stories about the NRL due to its profile. It is hardly going to bring the sport down or influence players to choose another sport.
In the end it has to come down to money.

In fact Karmichael Hunt is one of the players mentioned as being unhappy with the conduct of his fellow players, so I may have a point

| Hmm, I think Mr Hunt has been far from squeaky clean with his own image, so he is hardly in a position to castigate others.
He is one of the culprits to have given League a bad name in Australia.
Seem to recall him in tears and pleading forgiveness for alleged sexual assault in the toilet of a Brisbane nightclub (classy !) - along with Broncos team-mates Darius Boyd and Sam Thaiday - whilst I was in Oz just before last year's World Cup commenced.
It apparently followed an all-day drinking session.
As I said earlier, the man who is prepared to sell his birthright will also sell his soul for 30 pieces of silver - which he has done to play aerial ping pong.

Quote Karmichael Hunt comes with baggage . Evidently, those who nailed this incomprehensible coup have chosen to ignore that less than a year ago he could be found in the toilet cubicle of a Brisbane nightclub with a 24-year-old girl and two Broncos teammates committing a sordid drunken act that attracted a police investigation and a $20,000 fine from his club.
Chosen to ignore his reputation at the Broncos where he went from unaffected schoolboy to full-blown superstar.
As the Gold Coast franchise's press release read yesterday: "[Hunt will also work with the AFL and AFL Queensland to promote and develop the game over the next three years.''
As many remarked in League Land yesterday, Hunt is the PR stunt just waiting to explode in the faces of those who signed him. Kaboom!
The Broncos had to withdraw a $1.2million offer months ago because they'd reached their maximum limit.
But it is understood they could not beef up their offer with third-party agreements. Why? Because no company would touch Hunt with a 12-foot pole.
It needs to be made very clear that Hunt was cleared of any criminal wrongdoing following the incident last September involving a woman and teammates Sam Thaiday and Boyd.

Why cant these players just play the sport they're good at and been brought up with, and a sport that also pays them very well, for their whole career? Is it really too much to ask? Controversially afterwards they could stay in the game and coach, and put something back into the sport that gave them so much?
They're all as bad, Farrell, Robinson, SBW, Sailor, Hunt, Rogers. Ive no respect for any of them.

| The traditional 'pro AFL' press (particular Patrick Smith (a complete t*sser BTW who makes Stephen Jones look vaguely pro RL) are as you'd expect making all kinds of big noises about it. OTOH the league people here in Brisbane are basically laughing their asses off.
Bottom line is he's been brought in - at great expense - for the publicity value. It's really a sign of depseration that the GC franchise has to sign someone like Hunt, as they obviously are struggling to attract any high profile AFL players. I think the best comment I heard was from the Titans' CEO, who said that they decided not to go for gimmicks, and their star signing was Preston Campbell - the sort of player who can become a hit with fans and also be hugely influential on the field.
Unless he's an absolute smash hit, the chances of a 'mass' of defections to AFL are zero. Not that AFL wouldn't like to get more publicity, but which clubs in their right minds will take massive risks for players from other sports? Comparisons have been made to some Canadian RU player who's having a go, but that's nonsensical, because that lad was basically an amateur who probably got paid peanuts at first. Hunt OTOH is on a massive amount of dosh. Imagine how his 'teammates' will feel if he's a sack of sh*t and yet getting paid several times what they are.
I suspect he'll have to get a game if he's even close to standard, or this will quietly fizzle out when he moves to Japan or elsewhere for the dosh.
