Quote ="Charlie Sheen"Whom was the last French half back to play SL? Fages? The English clubs haven't produced many good ones but they've still produced halves of a decent SL standard in the last 8 years.'"
Catalans have played their French junior William Barthau a few times when the foreign halves were injured (Barthau is now at London Broncos, albeit yet to play because of injury).
Catalans wanted to sign Maxime Greseque -- who had already played a starring role at Featherstone Rovers -- as a half back/five eighth in 2006, but Maxime's controlling father wouldn't allow him to play for a club chaired by the father's former personal half back rival Bernard Guasch.
Now there are other young French halves coming through. They need to be given a chance. However with the one French club determined to buy top class Australians as halves, they don't get that chance at Catalans. Another reason why we need a second French club. Another reason why English clubs need to scout in France, rather than in the Antipodes.
