Doesn't give a good indication of how tight the competition is, I would be surprised to see it happened on numerous occasions in the NRL. Anyways thanks got taking the time to look.

Not looked at exactly what you were looking for, but this season there have been 35 NRL games with a deficit of 6 or less, with 30 in Super League.

This is around 23% of SL games and 25% of NRL games.

But I don't think that your base proposition shows an indication how tight the competition is. I would reckon the law of averages would ensure that most weeks one club, maybe a surprise club, will either play badly or be beaten by a few points because the other team played exceptionally well, its the nature of sport.

Also you can get extremely competitive games which are anything a proponent of tight competition could dream of, but where the margin is more than 6. Just for one example, Warrington v Catalans on Monday night.

And then you get results like the Bulls defying the odds to go and win at Wigan. Is that for or against the proposition of a tight SL comp?
