Rumours on the wakey board that Brian is about to jump ship, citing lack of funds to strengthen the squad as a reason.
This coincides with a recent tweet from the RL Mole (aussie journalist who is normally bang on the money) that a SL coach is about to quit.

Interesting if it turns out to be true, from our point of view it can only be a benefit if the SL clubs we are trying to replace have the instability of coaches quitting etc.
Might be a bit too early to have any real impact on the middle 8s though.

The other side to this coin is that Brian Smith may not be the most modern coach in terms of his approach to his players. By that I mean that I understand him to be quite school-masterly (?) in his interactions with the playing staff. It might be that this approach doesn't fit so well with the modern game and that in actual fact a change of coach reinvigorates the Wakey players.

That said, theyre an absolute shower in defence still and whilst they can score points they're certainly not outscoring teams. Any potential new coach will have to address this on the training field if they're going to shore things up.

Wonder if there was ever any truth in the rumour he would have come back to us if we had won the Million Pound Game - would certainly have been a better shout than Jimmy (IMO), but perhaps he would have run into similar problems re: financing a SL strength squad

Wow! Well that’s not good for Wakey. I thought he was doing a decent job with limited resources. Certainly better than his predecessor anyway and he was largely the reason they stopped up as he improved existing players and attracted some decent new faces.

He is an authoritarian. Always has been but he improves every team he goes to. Players need to buy into it. Obviously he doesn’t feel like he’s been given the backing he needed.

Agree with Bullseye, think it's a blow to wakey. Question is, how much of an impact of him quitting will it have on attracting new coach. He's left because of limited resources. Will it out coaches off? There's not a whole lot of good coaches without a job at the moment.

My money's on Morrison which would be a good deal for wakey.

Didn't Morrison already turn down Wakey just before Smith was appointed? Or did Dewsbury just not allow a conversation?

Dewsbury didn't allow him as I believe they were in the top 4 at that point.

You'd want assurances before taking that job on. Morrison's nobody's fool but he's still a rookie coach. I'd be wary of taking it on if I were him.

He struggled at times with a better squad at HKR but I'd expect him to apply with him being out of work.

Sounds like Ryan Brierley may be in a spot of bother about this if he did indeed induce Brian Smith to quit.
