| This is a category that surprised me by the lack of people that have palyed in this position.
Only one position so two votes for you.... runner up to subs vote.

| This was the selection that was always going to be difficult.
BEST SCRUM HALF is the question - so my choice would be the most gifted one in that position - Robbie Paul
My heart went first to Deacon for his outstanding longevity and goal scoring, but they are not the critea in this case.
I can see where others might disagree. Deacon was a better tactical kicker, Robbie was a better try scorer etc
Whatever, we had two great scrum halves spanning 14 seasons.

Yeah, really. I realise you're being your usual 'agent provocateur', but really....
Shaun Edwards? Whoever voted for him is voting for his form for Wigan not in his very brief and ill-fated spell with us.
Glenn Tomlinson was only ever the cover for Robbie and Henry Paul. Ben Jefferies? Well, even putting him in the poll twice won't make me vote for him!
And as for Matt Orford, don't even get me started

| You may knock Ox for what he did but there is no denying that he was a great player, he and kearney orchestrated our fight back against wigan, and im sure he won us a few games. But my votes do go for Robbie and Deacs for the way they played.

Re Edwards, have a look at the highlights from the 98 season...Edwards was at the hub of all the attack and created a lot of tries.

| I just don't see Robbie Paul as a scrum half at all. He was a stand-off that we played at 7 sometimes just because he was a bit of a genius.

| Robbie is my no. 6 and that's why I haven't gone for him.
Deacon is the obvious choice, whatever his detractors say he was the central reason behind many years of success, he fitted that particular spot in those particular squads perfectly, and was right for us. And then there was the kicking.
My no. 2 is Gale as he is the classiest of the rest. I wouldn't waste a pixel on Awford on principle.

I've included players in positions which they played on a regular basis, hence why Robbie has featured at Full Back, Stand Off and Scrum Half. Jefferies has covered both positions on a frequent basis.

The fact that there are already 12 votes for other players & I haven't voted yet answers your question.
Orford is head & shoulders above anyone on that list as a scrum half, almost technically perfect. It depends on your own criteria whether you vote for him or not. Robbie was a freak who could play in many positions brilliantly, & did, but, though I think scrum half was his best position, he wasn't the creative type of player that Orford was.
Gale is a class true scrum half who would have been a star in the Bulls team of 10 years ago.

| I think we're voting on what they did at the Bulls though, rather than before or after.
On that basis there is no place for Orford or Edwards, brilliant as both were elsewhere, of the rest most played so little or have yet to establish themselves, like Luke Gale who is showing great promise, so for me it is between Robbie and Deacs. I always felt Robbie was better at playing a bit wider than no.7, but he did play such a lot at scrum half, and did so very successfully, so he'd get my vote as first choice.

| Very easy for me. Deacs and R H-P, deacs being my favourite bulls player of all and why my favourite number is 7.
The fact that Robbie was a utility man didnt work in his favour but i wasn't gunna go for orford and pity that gale has only been here this year. Luke would have fitted right into the side in the late 90's and early 00'

Completely agree with you regarding Edwards (the best British scrum half I've ever seen), Orford and Gale. Only difference is that I put Deacs ahead of Robbie-- brilliant organiser/kicker compared to brilliant improviser. I think Gale has the potential to be a second Deacon.

My only memories of Edwards time at Bradford are of him having hissy fits when no-one would pass to him despite having a clear run in to the line. Orford might only have played half a season but he was outstanding throughout that time.

| This is tough (for the first place).
I think Robbie would edge my vote on a stand alone basis (although I agree he's probably more suited to six), but the fact that Henry is already in situ in our team means I would prefer Deacon. I'm not voting for subs.

I thought it was a fair call from Edwards to be fair. 'Hissy fit' or not there was clearly something in the background at the time, which was a great shame as I feel he had much to add, not least his uncanny ability to choose the [i:1b45ryoaexact[/i he was becoming more and more effective as time went by, but the odd bit of brilliance here and there, like a single swallow not making a summer, wouldn't give him my vote as overall best. If he'd stayed and we'd seen a bit more, consistently, who knows..

| What went on with Edwards? I regularly see it alluded to on here, but it was pre-internet (for me) and I'd left Bradford by then, so gossip was thin on the ground.

I always wondered that, if Ox hadnt been injured at MM and stayed for his contract, how would we have fared? In the seasons that followed.
