| Cannot believe the tone of their reporting on the Westfield site occupation. The condescension to those poor plebs who for some reason have a problem with having a hole in the middle of town for a DECADE.
Still waiting for them to pick up and run with the Odeon story, it's been in the nationals and Private Eye lately after all...
Perry Austin-Clarke seems to have been there an age. Is there no chance of him clearing off?

| If you read the Eye you'd see the Pilotti column in the previous edition about the Odeon and the apparent involvement of the T&A in the whole saga. If correct it shows the T&A are completely in bed with the council to try and get a deal out of them for their premises.
It would explain their reluctance to ever criticise the idiots in city hall.

| The T&A has become a sorry excuse for a paper. They seem to be concentrating on becoming an online version, presumably more lucrative due to advertising, but the print version to me is not worth buying any more, I used to have it delivered for very many years but it started to go downhill some years back and I think it has just got worse and worse.
Trying to defend a city centre having a crater for a middle for a decade has probably become easier, it's like when debts go from hundreds of millions into a billion, people get desensitised and it just goes over their heads after a while. But if you think about it for a moment - a decade - T E N _ Y E A R S - with no sign of anything happening - is 100% inexcusable and a disgrace in anyone's book. To find the local rage patronising critics and posturing in favour of Westfield (who seem to me to treat the whole city with utter contempt, and rarely - if ever - think it worth the effort to speak to the public of Bradford directly). Surely such a scandal should have been meat and drink for the city's newspaper to get its teeth into?
And that's without even going to the Odeon farrago.

| I went into the centre of Bradford on Friday night for the first time in an age, too see the completed water feature (fantastic) & visit the food festival (disappointing). The Odeon was invisible in a David Copperfield Empire State Building stylee. How have they done it?

| How long has the Odeon been shut?
Cant help but think that its too late to save. Shouldnt have been left to reach this state but the building looks a wreck from the outside.

Tha main deterioration was caused by the internal rainwater pipes being removed, consequently all rain deposits itself within the building. Damp & timber do not go very well together. Those wishing to see the Odeon demoilished were no doubt relieved at this chance occurrence.

I was staggered when I read that article in Private Eye. The T&A and the council should hang their heads in shame.

| At first I did not see the connection with this thread and the Bulls, but of course:
1) Big hole in ground.
2) Long stalled developments
3) Lack of money
4) Blatant conflicts of interest!
After 40 years I was thinking of transfering my allegiance to "Utopian Unicorns" but apparently they in in deep trouble for spear tackles!

I have little idea what this is about or where exactly it is. However it is common good practice for clients appointing contractors/developers, especially in this market, to insist on a bond from the contrator/developer to enable the client to appoint a successor to complete the project should contractor/developer go pop. The quality of the bond is usually a direct reflection of the status of the contractor/developer at the time. The apparent failure of the Council to be able invoke a liquidated damages clause against Westfield for their failure to complete their development on time is reminiscent.

You may also note the 'John Peel North' button on the site, for people to petition for the following:
=#40BFFFWe believe that a venue and arts centre dedicated to the memory of John Peel, celebrating musical in the North, will be a better use of the Odeon building in Bradford than the current plan to allow developers Langtree to demolish it and replace it with apartments, offices and a hotel.
When first mooted, this was covered in the [url=http://www.yorkshirepost.co.uk/news/at-a-glance/main-section/exclusive-bradford-odeon-could-house-john-peel-music-collection-1-4530850Yorkshire Post[/url and - to be fair - the [url=http://www.thetelegraphandargus.co.uk/news/9700065.Group_calls_for_Odeon_to_become_John_Peel_Music_Centre/?ref=rssT&A[/url.

| Quote ="BORG" The T&A's editorial agenda continues, despite the apparent conflict of personal interest. The T&A editor's involvement in a bid for Bradford Council to buy his newspaper building for a thwarted extension option for St Georges Hall was at the Odeon's expense. Mr Austin Clarke threatened legal action against Private Eye if they refused to retract their coverage of his Odeon bias several months ago... There has been no retraction and no legal action, which says all it needs to.'"

| The business that the council puts the way of the T&A is what is keeping it alive; Legal notices, job adverts etc.... And this colours editorial decisions and , yes, the council does get off lightly in terms of the nature of the journalism that it is exposed to when projects such as the Odeon and Westfield go wrong. And although the T&A paper edition is a shadow of what it once was, I still think that it would be a disaster if the T&A went and the only "local" daily paper was the Yorkshire Post.

| T&A has been very poor for years, even before it became a tabloid the standards had dropped and it's slowly become worse as the years have drifted by. It's the 'mumsy' headlines which do it for me; "Mum attacked by yobs", for instance, which when you read on, you find the fact she had once borne children has nothing whatever to do with the story and the children weren't even there when the attack took place!....... . Granddad and grandmother are also used in the same cloying way, pathetic imo.

| Would the T&A be a loss? Serious question, what positive contributions has it made to Bradford in recent years? Anything to outweigh their ludicrously craven positions on Westfield, the Odeon and Odsal?

| If the resultant gap in the market were filled by a born and bred in the city alternative then, other than the fact it would leave a number of people out of work, I would be more than happy to see it go. If, on the other hand, it provided an opportunity for a Leeds based paper to to take over, then no. Bradford has already been diminished more than enough and to have a city of our size getting it's info from a Leeds based rag would just be too much for my pride to stomach, if I'm honest.
Not on the main (or even secondary) rail map, not mentioned on road signs until around ten miles from the city centre, 4th largest local authority in England and we're in the Weeds city region (for christ's sake), and not even on the local tv weather map most flaming weeks.....we've suffered enough, don't you think?
