now quite a lot of peopl have been ranting that herbert was a "poor " signing etc. yes he wasnt the player we had bee needing to take control but comparing his stats against Michael dobson who people think is fantastic, this season nothign much seperates them. theres 40/20 which yes dobson is a better kicker and missed tackles. the missed tackles is explained by dobson moving away from a tackle and letting his and 2nd rower make it. herbert put himself about more.
as i said before, i was sad to see the lad leave, he showed promise and i believe he woudl have done a good job with either gale or sammut. was he worth a quota spot? after some promising signs last season i would say yes he was. dont have to go far, big lesley wasnt a shining light in his first season, and he was a winger, a half back role takes time to adapt to and herbert was thrown in the deep end, arrived in jan and had to get his combos going almost instantley.
i do think we have let go of a promising half.

| Marc's problem was that he wasn't a no.7 he was really a 6. For my money if he'd played at 6 outside an organiser he would have been a different player. If, as a team, we'd been a more cohesive and confident unit he would have been a better player imo, but of course, he couldn't change the circumstances and he was in the side as a 7 and [ihe[/i was the one who was supposed be the organiser and inspirer. Wrong guy in the wrong place at the wrong time, which seems to have become a habit with us in recent times.
I was surprised to hear he'd 'retired', though, he still has lots to offer for mine, another club, another time, different circumstances he could still be a contender, though possibly not at no.7.

| I think, in a side like Wigan's or Wire's this season he would probably have gone ok. He did show some nice touches during his time with us and his try assists speak for themselves. So in a decent side where he had far less expectations and pressure on his shoulders, something similar to Deacon at Wigan this season, he would have been fine.
Unfortunately for Marc, he was playing in a poor Bulls side that were looking to him to be the creator of almost all our attacking spark, made even worse by the injuries to L'Estrange et al.
Confidence can make a hell of a difference to a player's game, and I for one would have loved to see Marc at full confidence to see what he could do. A shame really that we were never in a position to allow him to build it up.
That being said, we have a better prospect in Gale now, so let's just move on.

| Having watched the games instead of just reading the stats I can say he wasn't impressive. We needed someone to move the team around the pitch and organise things. Don't know how you could record that in the stats.
I think the problem is that players do not start off with the intention of being bad. If you get played out of position or fail to fulfil someone's expectations is it your fault.

| Compare Gale and Dobson, luke mullers him in nearly every aspect, missed tackles are abit of a worry though, but who trusts these stat charts
Think we have a winner there long as the team gels and we can get some fluidity back into the team.
