In the race with hull kr for signature

Seems a little unlikely as I'd have thought he'd be wanting a guaranteed starting spot and given the players we've got in the back line for next year that may not be likely.

But, if the rumours of Platt and Sykes being told they can find other clubs, something else that I think is a little far fetched, then we would require some additional cover in the backs and Smith wouldn't be a bad player to have

Can cover fullback also - never thought he was anything special personally but he has a winning mentality which is much needed at Odsal

a big YES PLEASE from me... if we are signing the Lee Smith that put in those sensational grand final efforts,
however if we are trying to sign the lazy over weight lump that come over from wasps I would stay well clear!

It was in last weeks League Weekly that both are free to talk to other clubs and vice versa.

He's not getting any game time at Leeds due to their depth in the backs and his questionable defence. But he does have an excellent attacking game as we saw back in 2008 at the World Cup and glimpses last year on his return from Wasps RU.
He also possess that rare utility quality in that he can play any number of positions in the backline with his prefered starting option being at Full Back.

Would be a good signing if Sykes and Platt are to leave leaving only Crookes and Walker (should be given an extra year IMO) as cover.

Not just the mentality but the confidence we are badly lacking.

Lee Smith is one of a select few SL players that I really can't stand. I think it's his constant moving off the mark that winds me up the most.
He's no more a centre than Platt, and no better than Raynor/Ainscough.

That's where people go wrong with Smith in that if he's at C or W then of course it'll spell trouble but at full back he's pretty competent.

Smith's an excellent FB. Shame we've just signed a mediocre one to a long term deal because Smith is the kind of player than can do some serious damage to other teams.

Everyday of the week, Mick. Kearney is as mediocre as they come. His positioning, reading of the game and return of the footy are shocking. His passing and tackling leave a lot to be desired too. And where's this pace he's meant to have?

He doesn't need to convince anyone. Even Stevie Wonder can see that his position sense at FB is dreadful.

thank you. everyone seems to think that BK is a cracking FB.....in attack yes he is, in defence , he is woeful. like said above his positional play is beyond crap and cant catch a cold let alone a high ball. he is just a major defensive liability and to be last man...every time there is a line break i have no faith in him to make the tackle. he puts in some effort in the 1st half but at 45/50 mins he just doesnt seem bothered. if im honest i think he is only playing for us because we are paying him a packet, his new contract must have been seriously improved. tbh that salary and quota spot could have been better spent.
as for smith...not a plonk him on the wing, and yeah hes okay with a good .

Far too slow for a winger now. It depends how much he wants & his attitude. Seems lazy & overweight since his return from the dark side. Perhaps Phil Clarke's rugby gods are having their retribution again.

Kearney's the best player we've got by some distance and to pick Smith before him is lunacy!

that said, I would take Smith as cover/winger no problem.

With our 2 NRL guys coming in for the centre positions we need one experienced squad player as utility cover. Sykes & Platt can both fill this gap. Realistically we are going to try and let one go, the other will probably stay - as cover. The only point to signing Smith would be if we were confident that we could move on both of Sykes & Platt (who are both still contracted) because we only need one of those 3 named.

it would make sense to keep sykes over platt due to the homegrown status. Smith has hardly set the world alight after coming back from union. Has he had any injuries since coming back?
