| Millward, Noble.
Never: Kear, Morgan (given his propensity for snow patrol) or Agar. Or Denis Betts. Comes across as an incredibly dislikeable smug

| Of course Nobby is the number one candidate [iideally[/i. How realistic is it though? There is still bad feeling between him and those who shoved him out of the door to Wigan isn't there...?

| Some up and coming young Aussie who can turn us from being a medicre team into champions quite literally the minute he steps off of the plane please.
I'm not a believer in the theory that if Nobby comes back we'll somehow re-capture some of the success we had before. The club is a very different place now and I'm not convinced he's the person to get us back to the top.
Not sure anyone British coach is up to the task - especially if, as we're led to believe, Macca is the top coach in our game. There must be a reason why Aussies seem to be able to come over and be so successful; whether it's a mindset, coaching methods, new tactics and ideas... maybe the British game is just stale? I wish it wasn't the case but I've seen little to prove otherwise.

| Some people don't really give Nobby the credit he deserves.....
Forgetting the success he had with Bradford (some would say it was due to the squad he inherited (not me though!)), look at what he achieved after he left.
The time he had at Wigan saw them lifted from the bottom of the table to safety, followed by successive top 4 finishes. Yes he didn't win a final but the Wigan team that won under Madges first year was pretty much the same that Nobby left.
Then look at what he did at the Crusaders - took a team of 'Whipping Boys' and turned them into a top 8 team. I remember the odds at the beginning of the season had them favourites to finish bottom but he crafted out a decent team, capable of competing for a play-off spot.
His time with the GB boys was probably better than any other coach for the past 10 years. Although they didn't turn the world over, they competed with Australia and New Zealand and the players were playing with confidence. Tony Smith had very little success and 'The man from Hull' hasn't produced 1 good performance against southern hemisphere teams.
IMO, Noble is the best British coach by far and he has such a winning mentality.
Not saying i want to shove Potter out of the door, but if MP was to leave, I would be happy to see Noble as the replacement.
One last thing - I don't like seeing Aussie coaches coming to the UK with no managerial experience, they stop British coaches from progressing. Clubs lack patience and just want quick success. Credit to the Bulls, they seem to like coaches that have some history with the club, even though McNamaras stint wasn't very successful.

| Don't get me wrong, in a perfect world I'd love SL to be full of British coaches... But how many 'inexperienced' Aussies come over and are successful? How many British coaches, when given the opportunity, flop? OK... maybe flop is the wrong word, but lets say fail to live up to their Aussie counterparts?
Like I said, I don't know why this is - maybe the way they learn their trade as a coach in Australia? As far as I can see, the best thing a up and coming British coach can do is try and get a job in Australia and see what they're doing different.
I agree that traditionally (since the start of SL anyway) the club have tended to promote from within and even Potter, who has been brought in from outside, has a history with the club. That is something that the club is right to be proud of, but if Potter was to leave who is there as a readymade replacement? And would the club be better bringing someone in with new ideas rather than someone who knows the club because, let's be honest, the past few years show that the system we're currently employing isn't working.

This has been discussed numerous times on here, and to my shame I never remember the exact details, hence the open-ended teaser for someone more knowledgable to jump in. If you saw the recent "Super League's Super Men" with Noble, he said he was happy to stay at Bradford and the inference was heavily on the fact that he wasn't exactly happy with the ease he was offered up to Wigan. Maybe I'm getting a couple of different myths mixed up, but if this isn't the case I apologise. I don't want this to be a debate on the whys and wherefores of Nobby leaving the club, my point more is that we can say we want Noble back all we want, I thought we might as well start a campaign for Wayne Bennett to come to the club for how much use it would be.
In your view then, is it actually realstic Nobby would come back as coach in the next season or two?

| Just arrived back from Oz about an hour ago.. the talk there was that Ricky Stuart is a shoe-in for the job.. a couple of ex players wanted Potter, but Stuart is favoured by whoever it is that matters (cant remember who, been flying for 25 hours!)

Or maybe the Aussie coaches who do particularly well go to clubs with plenty of money to throw at the project? HKR aren't [iexactly[/i setting the league alight nor Salford, unlike say, Wire, Wigan, Saints and Huddersfield. People might say it's just because they've got the best coaches, which may well be true but the bigger truth behind that is the money available to buy 'the best'.
I go along with your conjecture about Nobby returning; one thing for sure, as you point out, is that if Nobby were to come back he would find a very different set up to the one he left, particularly in the financial department, where money is no longer available at the drop of a hat for this, that and everything.

| Potter is a good coach, he just has a very bad squad of players, which hopefully next season will be resolved.
