Sorry as this looks like old news but I only found out today.

Steve Bailey no longer presents the Big Drive Home on Radio Leeds. In fact at the moment he's providing holiday cover on Radio York for the Drivetime show but has no other Radio job. He will be at the Bulls again though next season.

I was really sad to hear this and not just because of his connection to the Bulls. The bloke is as nice a person you could wish to meet (he absolutely loves the Bulls and the City of Bradford (he is in fact a native of Macclesfield in Cheshire but moved over here when he first started on Pulse)) and I for one used to really enjoy listening to him on my way home from work.

I really do feel strongly about this because not only is it sad to see him go but also fits in with the general de-generation of output from Radio Leeds. It can't be a financial issue because I bet Kelner on a morning is earning a few bob and he's rubbish. That wassock on after him is even worse. The only time I'll listen to Radio Leeds now is for the sport.

Seems a decent fella. Not sure about his presenting on matchdays however. Strange random screeches and excessive sarcastic barracking of referees don't work for me.

Do you work alongside Steve on matchdays (to be privvy to said info)?

No I don't could you imagine it if I was involved with the match day "experience"? I wish I was that would be a dream. I've not had chance to listen to the Big Drive Home as I'm now in work until after 6 when the new sports programme starts so didn't realise that he's not been doing it but I am friends with him on Facebook and I'm on the Big Drive Home Facebook group and just found out after not going on it for a few weeks.

He's kept the Big Drive Home facebook group going to update people on what he'll be doing Radio wise and he's posted it on there.

I've met him a few times after home matches and bumped into him at away matches he's a really nice bloke. He used to give shout outs to any fans that asked him. He interviewed my dad at work after doing a thing on the company he works for and rembered me when my dad mentioned me. I thought that was really good because I can't remember half the people I speak to and I'm not out interviewing people everyday.

The same happend to Alex Pepper at Galaxy 105, anyone remember ITM@9?

Yes but have you listened to Radio Leeds lately? Apart from the sport Steve Bailey was the only reason to listen to it. It's absolute and utter gash. That Kelner drives me crazy.

I don't listen to the radio through the day.

I just catch Tong, Jules, Pearce and the Essential Mix on the i-player.

The early Alex Pepper stuff for Kiss before the Galaxy suits took over was the best radio I've ever heard.

Indeed. I particularly enjoyed 'The Lisping Fella' on Si James and Hill's show - who was actually the voice of Rod Studd of Sky Sports fame!

As for Radio Leeds, I like Andrew Edwards new afternoon show but it's a shame for Steve.

Martin Kelner is well over-rated IMO and always has been.

Before I sorted out my digital radio (I had mistakenly plugged the aerial into a speaker port

) all I could get was R2 & Leeds. Andrew & Georgie kept me sane first thing in the morning after putting up with Sarah Kennedy & her Daily Torgraph inspired right wing ramblings.

I couldnt stand him either but has he now left?? He hasn't been on this week and they have jingles for the new bloke (Adam Pope who does the sport).

I think Adam Pope is the regular stand in bloke (he's done a lot of Fridays filling in).

Breakfast and drivetime are all talk. The music is wallpaper and the phone-ins are frequented by the curtain twitching set complaining about dog poo and that kind of thing.

Must admit radio Leeds is going down the pan big time....Steve Bailey was the final straw for me...a nicer bloke you couldnt meet, always gave you a mention if you text the show and the show was actually very good......Paul Carrington was good laugh but he was elbowed and went to pulse2 a while ago, and they gave extra air time to Liz "i will cut you short if you dont agree with my view" Green..that woman been given more air time is ridiculous, she ought to have been sacked long ago....Real radio must be loving it...
