| Me - well, I'm well aware that far better Bulls sides have been dusted by Saints in similar and worse fashion over the years. I think that the out camp's case is strengthened significantly if this season continues in this vein though. This home game was so important to the club in terms of wooing back the doubters, and I wonder how it is that this was allowed to come to pass.
I still think the long term plan is the right one for the club, and I worry as to who would come in if Mac did go. But I also worry as to why he's not getting more out of his players than this afternoon.

he's had well over a year, keeps taking the club further and further backwards, with no signs of improvment.
i as an outsider think they should give another lad a chance.

| Nothing has changed at all, even with a new team nothing has changed. Its obviously McNamara's coaching skill, he needs to do a McCall and do one.

| Discusting. It doesn't matter which playing staff are brought it, it's always the same. Soft & Clueless.
People need to get over the 1/2/3/whatever game into the season it is. This is 4 years into Macca's reighn as coach and it's not good enough. Simply.

It will certainly be fun watching the usual suspects try to defend their beloved Steve. They know who they are as do plenty of others. I assume that they will explain to us how he is the man to take us forward.

Tbh, no prospect looks particularly appealing right now. My bro makes a fair point that once the Aussies have had chance to bed in we might be looking better. Will be interested to have a look at the available coaches thread.

I'm guessing from the posts above that his solution is to sack him and get someone else in.
Really weird thing is, I heard a rumour that a coach in Oz was interested in taking Macnamara to his team as assistant, with a view to making him the replacement head coach. I'm a bit lost with this one, as I don't think he's shown anything at head coach with Bradford to warrant that interest.
It was always going to be hard for you at the start of this season. A new 6, 7 and 9 surely takes a lot of time to gel together and gel with the rest of the team.

| What about Menzies as head coach? Should have little, if any, financial impact and maybe the players would respond to his highly regarded work ethic. Lack of experience may be seen as a weakness but can things get worse? I do not like commenting on the situation from so far away but listening today it seems things are not improving at all from the last game I saw which was last seasons opener v Giants.

| How poor does the coaching have to get ????
How about this fo 70mins of tactics:- Reardon takes tackle one, Baby Lesley takes tackle two, tackle three goes to prop 1, tackle three goes to prop 2, tackle 5 = freestyle (with token knock on !).
Every single time. It was VERY embarrasing today.....................again.
How can a side have 4 repeat sets on the oppo line and fail to cunjure up anything ???

| Fwiw, I think that having given him the pre-season you've got to give him the fabled ten. But as important as what you think of the bloke you're turfing out is who it is you're thinking if bringing in.
I'm surprised the out camp are so quick to bring up mccall as an example, given the circumstances he was brought in under. No one could do worse than Todd was the cry. How does that look now?

| I've defended him last season on numerous occasions but NOW is the time for a change.
Our defensive structure in the fisrt half was non existant and the second half we were camped on saints line for 30 of the 40 mins and were clueless how to open them up.
This is entirely HIS team but the errors are exactly the same. He's a nice bloke and he talks well about the game but he cannot convey that to his players, he's had long enough now we must change now to resurect our season because if that standard continues there will be no fans there to watch it, and it's not just new players taking time to gell, they are all proffesional and should now how to tackle it's coaching systems that are lacking.

I certainly wouldn't support that option. If we reached the point where we had to sack McNamara then it should be an experienced coach from outside the club that should be brought in.
Today was completely indefensible and rapid improvement is needed.

| Plenty of people talking at game today about Macca out. A lot saying it should have happened last year.
I can't be bothered going on about it, cause it seems quite clear it's not going to happen given his contract expires end of season.
First game of season at home is not one to put a performance like that in though. Complete shambles.

| I continue to await a practicable and affordable solution from our resident dishonest vulture. Again, his only contribution to the post-match discussion is his same old same old. Pretty sad way to get your fun (his word), I'd say?
Which players are we to sell, or which of the few remaining staff are we to sack, to pay for the replacement and HIS new assistants as well as paying-up the present incumbents' contracts? Or (as I would want to see if the board DID lose patience) ensure he stays at the club in a wider role. If he can finally put some realistic proposals forward in that department, then we could have a reasonable debate.
And did I say "dishonest"? Indeed I did. Because I've yet to meet anyone off here to whom Macca "is beloved", or by who is believed to be the best coach in the competition. What I HAVE met is a decent number of reasonable people who recognise that he's the best coach we currently have, and the only way I can see the club being in any position to fund a replacement of the pedigree and calibre demanded is if the directors personally pay for it. The way the sugar daddies that other clubs are blessed with do. And indeed, maybe if they do lose patience it will have to come to that.
So maybe the likes of ME should make a start by writing to the directors personally, urging them to do just that? Or even having the guts to go tell them to their faces to put their hands in their pockets? Or maybe ME could start a fundraising campaign from the fans to raise the six-figure sum that would be needed. I'm sure they will be all ears.
My big fear is that if the board DO finally lose patience, will they (have to? decide to?) go for a cheap solution? Wire did that with Jimmy, and look what happened. The oft-mentioned Menzies option (if indeed all the visa etc hurdles could be overcome - that might not be one of the lighter challenges) would surely run that risk?

Today gave no indications that they are improving, believe me.
But the Menzies option (if it was practicable visa rules-wise) would have financial impact in that he would immediately have to come off the playing staff and retire as a player for us, else his package would still count on the salary cap. And the club would (I believe) not be in a position financially to recruit a replacement (if one were available) since they would need those funds top pay off those who were leaving.

| We were way off the mark, particularly in the first half. Saints were hot and Leon Pryce played as well as I have seen him play.
"There were a lot of things that looked rusty. It wasn't a great performance at all. Maybe it was part of a process we need to go through as a group to get to where we want to get to.
"We weren't at the races. We expected to perform better but there were obviously reasons for that and we need to rectify that."
While admitting it was a tough day at the office for his players, McNamara was quick to praise St Helens for an "electrifying" attacking display.
"We started okay but then Saints hit us with a whirlwind," he added.
"I thought their offensive play at times was electrifying. They played with a lot more intensity with the ball than we did.
"I'd like to think we'll sit here in five days' time with a different situation. We'll be strong and stay together, but quite possibly in the long run this process will make us a better team.
"It was a tough day at the office but we'll look forward to getting back next week

Odd that someone who cannot admit to being a complete hypocrite can be so cutting in his abuse of another.
Open your eyes Adey and see that I am not the only one slating him now and maybe take some of your ire that way. Or is it just that your obsession of me precludes you from doing this?
You have defended this dud for long enough and slated me for questioning him for about a similar time. It is just a shame that he is letting you down so badly.
As for starting a whip round to get rid of him???? That would be great but sadly it would be futile given that Mr Hood seems tho think that he is the blue eyed boy. Strange though, that you now use this as an option, about a good year or so after I was slated for saying that we cannot afford to sack him?
