This is utterly bonkers. The poor, poor sod.

According to T&A today, the water wasn't actually a factor. He'd been out for a few drinks (nothing excessive) and had a heart attack in the street. While having the attack, he apparently fell in to the pond. His son is quoted as saying the water wasn't a factor. Still a horrid way to go though, and a horrid time of the year for it to happen.

That's a nice thing for his son to say. A lovely way to look at it.

The annoying part of this story is that CCTV showed him fallng in. Isnt the CCTV supposed to be monitored, why wasnt the authorities alerted when he fell in, why did it take until the next day for someone to find him.



Its a tragedy and perhaps nothing could have been done for the guy, but it does make you think.

At my place of employ we have over 200 CCTV cameras (we are, afterall, the most watched nation in Europe) & a brand new state of the art control centre with 32 screens. I know that Bradford Uni CCTV links with the city, I would expect other major institutions do also. It is not financially or physically possible, or desirable, to watch everything continuously, even if under CCTV. They are used as much for gathering evidence as anything, & consequenlty as a crime deterrent in that area.

A few years ago I was sat on a patch of grass near my office at lunch time when a CCTV camera swung around to look at me. I flicked it the Vs and was treated to a chat with a copper who pulled up moments later. So in Leeds big brother is very definately watching you.

Police do tend to take a dim view of doing that in public.
