| I hear Deacs' is signing for Wigan today, and I think it is only right to thank him for the service he has given to the club. I know this last year or to he has had his critics, but one shouldn't forget the fact that he has become a target for late tackles when kicking the ball.
With out doubt he was a kicker supreme, and perhaps he could have attacked the line a little more, but he was great at making a decisive pass to put a colleague in for a try.
I am sure many supporters will join with me in wishing him well in his new role as coach and player, and he will be happy at his home town club.

| Even to the deaf and dumb (and we have plenty of them), Deacons' record, and his trophy cabinet, say all that needs to be said about the guy, who was - despite what his most truculent critics claim - an absolutely integral part of the Bulls' rise to re-eminence in SL.
A great servant indeed, and something of the end of an era feel about it, though the time is absolutely right given the use of his head as a punchbag which he has been suffering of late.
All the best, Paul, you deserve it, and thanks for the memories.

He has been a fantastic servant to the club. I certainly won't let any recent form cloud my memories of a very good Bulls player who played a pivotal role in our success.
I think the time is right for a change for both parties though. I sincerely hope he is successful at Wigan and will always get a warm welcome at Odsal from me. Good luck Deacs!

Completely agree. Probably the most decorated of all halfbacks in the club's history. The best goalkicker I've seen in a Bradford jersey too.
I wondered if it was time he called it a day given the punishment he took last year. It looks like the move to Wigan is the start of him winding down his playing career.

| Deacs has been terrific for us. He`s won nearly every honour in the game and will go down as one of the all time greats. I`m pleased for him that he`s going to his hometown club and making the first steps in his coaching career. I wish him nothing but the best for the future though the big disappointment is that due to the timing there will be no big goodbye, no last lap around Odsal and no chance for the fans to say farewell in the accustomed manner.
So goodbye Paul, you can put on your cherry and white, but you`ll [ialways[/i be a Bull!

| Absolutely fantastic bloke. Lesser guys could have called it quits after such a horrific injury, or even just been a bit softer. But Deacs was there charging with his bionic head as if nothing had happened.
I wish him nothing but the best and heartfelt thanks for being Mr Consistent throughout the years. I'll miss people calling you baby-face even though, due to your bravery, you have a face like a chewed walnut.
Thanks Paul.

| All the best Deacs, I hope you go onto bigger and better things in your coaching role.
Thanks for everything you put into helping make Bradford a successful team.
Through the highs and the lows, you were always there and you'll always be remembered as a great asset to the Bradford club.
P.S. my daughter is devastated

| Just had to tell Little Miss Cookie that Paul is going. I now have an absolutely distraught 7 year old who idolises him (she has been going to the Bulls since she was 2-months old!) who is crying her heart out!
He is a part of the Bulls folklore and deserves to be mentioned with the likes of Lowes, the Pauls & the Penguin + others.
All the best for the future, and here's hoping we can give him a proper send off.

| He already had my total respect long before that horrific injury playing for Great Britain, but that just confirmed what a dedicated and professional rugby league player he is.
Good luck Paul, you will always be held in the highest esteem.
Would love to see him back at the club in some sort of coaching capacity in the future.

| It's a shame we won't get chance to say goodbye to him properly. He's been an important player for Bradford and anyone who scoffs at that should consider his large collection of winners medals.
I hope he goes well at Wigan - except when they play us!!
I bet he'll miss being a Bradford player - apart from the commute. He'll get to stop in bed longer in the mornings!

| As previously mentioned it has the feel of the end of an era. He was one of the last integral squad members of the team that won things year in and out. It was the right time to go but he'll always be spoken of in the highest terms. Record points scorer with a huge haul of medals and honours with more heart than a pack of forwards. Thanks Paul.

| You have been an outstanding player and loyal servant to the Bulls. It has truly been a pleasure to watch you play Paul. Odsal will not be the same without you. I wish you every success in your new venture.
PS - do you think you will be able to get the raised corners in your car to transport over the the JJB?

Quote Wigan-born Deacon, who still lives in the town, will join the Warriors on a 3-year Assistant Coach contract supporting Michael Maguire and Shaun Wane but will operate also as a First-Team Player in 2010. Paul will combine his duties as Player and Assistant Coach before taking up the position of Assistant Coach full-time in 2011 and 2012.
'"
Chairman, Ian Lenagan, added:
Quote “As I have said before, one of Michael Maguire’s remits as Head Coach is to develop top-quality, young Wigan coaches that work beneath him. Just like Shaun Wane, Michael will be able to take Paul’s skills and mould him into a Super League coach of the future. We have signed Paul primarily for his obvious potential coaching abilities but there is no doubt that his playing ability could be of significant benefit to us in the short term.
“Paul will have specialist duties as a Kicking Coach and a Half-Back Coach where he will help nurture the incredibly talented Sam Tomkins plus young Joe Mellor, a player who we regard as a potential Wigan star of the future, together with helping Thomas Leuluai to develop his game even further.”
