| Hopefully Sykes won't make the final cut - he was exposed in the last world cup and by all accounts has been poor for Bradford this season at centre. Doubt he'll get a chance at stand-off either.
Is McNamara still assistant coach?

Oh yes they are. They're also better than Carvell.
I'm starting to think there's something between Lynch and Tony Smith that means Lynch knows he won't get selected no matter what (hence why he can book weddings or holidays knowing it won't clash).
IMO there's only Peacock, Morley & Graham that are as good as or better than Lynch.

To be honest, I'd say there are. If McCarthy-Scarsbrook was a youth product from a heartlands club, he wouldn't be anywhere near that England team. He's getting more plaudits than he normally would simply because he's a good player that's come through the London system, same as Clubb. Both good players, but being rated higher than they should be because of where they're from and people wanting the London area to produce some players.

Finally a sensible post from you on the subject & hopefully an acknowledgement that I never dissed Lynch or Scruton.
FWIW I think Lynch is probably the best of the 3 at this stage, but he aint going to get any better & it does seem he has missed his chance, for whatever reason. He is a traditional workhorse prop with unusually good hands these days; he would fit in any club in SL. Would he excell at international level? Not to the extent of the big 3.
Scruton is improving all the time, I would question whether a decent 2/3 of a season makes you qualified to face the Aussies. I would have no qualms with him being in the squad for the experieince as I think he is an England prop of the future. My only worry is his size, he needs to develop like Andy Platt to excell.
Scarsbrook is definitely work in progress, but he has the pace & power (due to his size) the other 2 lack. A different type of player altogether. Again no arguments about him being there for the experience. I suspect your view of him is based on 2 or 3 viewings a year, as are mine.
Clubb seems to have gone backwards this year & doesn't warrant his place on performances IMO. It is a reflection of the parlous state of our centre quality that he is in there. He has the size & power we are missing now the world's greatest ever centre has retired from test rugby.

Halley isn't eligible under the new rules. It has be two years since your last game for another country now. He played for Wales last year.

FWIW, I wasn't saying Scruton should have got a call up. I'd hope he was at least looked at, as his form has been excellent, but I don't think he was as sure fire a pick as Lynch should have been. However I do believe Scruton should have been considered before LMS. Scruton for me is up at about the same level as Carvell. Will do a great job for you, but not at the same level as Graham, Peacock & Morley. Lynch however, is.
I am basing viewings of LMS on televised games and the two games against us, as I haven't seen Quins apart from those. However I'm yet to see enough from him to warrant an England selection. You're right that he does possess the raw qualities, but despite having possibly the best prop coach in the league, he still doesn't quite offer enough for me.

| Whilst Halley is clearly our best full back, he's some way short of being international class in my honest opinion.
He's no Briscoe or Wellens, or even my baby Jarryd Hayne.

I'd never rated Carvell, always seemed more intent on looking hard. Smith certainly seems to have improved him in his time at Wire though.
