| I feel it is time to give John Rudd a go on Sunday, his trial is coming to an end and to be honest he can't be any worse than Sheriffe what do people think?

| I've only seen him play for about 20 minutes, but I don't think anyone who's only been playing League for a month or so should be in our first team this season.
If he's good enough, put his in next season's squad, when he's had quite a bit of time to adjust to the game and when he's got a full pre-season behind him.

| I seem to recall that it has already been explained on here why Rudd cannot play for the first team this year? RFL rules?

I'm sure he could if we signed him to a contract though, unless I missed why not. Certainly can't while on a trialist deal though.
Not that he should play in the first team this year, but I would have thought that would get round it.

Yes, Sheriffe's getting a tiny bit better every game, he's not missing as many tackles and he's getting through some good work early in the tackle count. Lets show him that if he tries to improve he will get dropped

I didn't know of the minimum thing, but yeah I would assume it would have to count on the cap.
As we've all documented before though, the cap space would be there for what would surely be a smallish wage, due to the Tupou and Bird situations.
I don't know why I'm arguing why he could play here though, considering I wouldn't want him to.

| pretty certain that even if we did give rudd a contract he'd be ineligble for first team this year. RFL brought a signing deadline in after morley, johns etc loan deals in 2005. leeds stated it as a reason for not bringing eastwood over this year, he got his visa a week or two after the deadline.

| just checked section c1:2:8 in the operational rules covers it. players have to be signed before start of round 21 to be eligble for 1st team.

No, I couldn't make it down to that one. I assume you know what I mean by improvement? If you look at his first few games for us, then compare those with the last one vs Huddersfield I think you'll find he's missing less tackles, making less errors and making more meters whilst helping the forwards out.
If you want to compare his stats to Semi's they aren't much worse, and i'd say thats good because Semi is one of the best wingers in the league. Sheriffe has made an awful lot of metres for us this year, his metre per carry stat is fairly good for a winger, he's made around the same errors as Semi and the only glaringly bad stat for him is his missed tackles, which isn't helped by the fact he's had a centre who also can't tackle for most of the season. He's missed considerably less tackles when he's had Platt or Menzies inside of him.

Quote Rugby union trialist John Rudd continued his good form with two tries in a 34-10 success over the Wildcats.
The former Northampton and Newcastle winger has seen his spell with the club now come to an end, leaving plenty of food for thought for boss Steve McNamara.
He has yet to decide whether he will offer Rudd a deal for 2010 but has not ruled anything out. '"

| I think he is worth a gamble if he isn't expecting 1st choice starting winger salary. Sign him on a 12 month deal and a modest wage and see if he can cut it in top flight SL. It seems Kearney is just a case of when it'll be announced but despite reading some good things about him, I'm unsure if he is the player we really need. Surely we cannot be thinking of moving Halley who has improved so much this season?
I read somewhere that Nero had successfully gained a Greek passport? How would this affect our quota? (apologies I still really don't understand the new system!)
It would appear the Millard deal has fallen through which would be a bitter blow, especially if he then joins Wakey. We have already missed out on Wing, I just hope we're not settling for whatever is left over!

| He's done nothing to suggest that he'll make it in super league. In the day's off the salary cap it's too uch of a gamble IMO.

Don't think he can play can he plus Sherrife has been doing ok lately so keep him there like i've already said give him a good centre and he'll be good next year.

doesnt affect his quota status. nero was a kolpak under the old system. under the new system he's classed as non fed trained. If he signs a new deal next year he'll become federation trained in 2011 season.
