I'd take a punt on Rooney next year to play at Stand Off. Offer him a 1 year contract and see how it goes from there. He would be a better option than Sykes, and been realistic, we are not going to get Brough and there is nobody else available. Rooney (when fit) is a good player, not world class but can do a job at 6. In 116 games for Wakefield he has scored 57 tries, 320 goals and 21 Drop goals. Danny Brough on the other hand has played 79 games scored 8 tries, 209 goals, and 4 drop goals. I know Brough is far superior but Rooney wont cost much and if he stays fit he could be a key player.

I have no problem with someone like Thorman/Rooney coming if they're coming to make up a 3 some competing for two spots alongside someone other than Deacon. If we lined up Deacon with either of them two we could proudly hold the record for the two least dangerous halfbacks in SL. Not a record we need.

I think he could add some value to somebody as a 3rd choice halfback but he shouldn't be 1st choice at any SL side wanting to compete for top play off spots.

An interesting shout, but is he the finished article that perhaps we need? Or do you feel that we will go around with Deacon for another year and he'll be competing on form with Deacs?

If we're stuck with Deacon for another season then he would no doubt be a fairly affordable solution and is a decent young player as well. I'd rather we gave someone like him a chance than a Thorman or Rooney.

Rooney/Thorman/Deacon at half back = bottom 3 finish in SL.

Judging by the way Deacon's performances have tailed of in the past 2-3 seasons if I were him I'd be wondering whether I could justify a first team place. Deacon's stats are poorer than any other half in SL this year. Sometimes it's time to call it quits before the memories of the bad times overshadow the good.

From what I've heard Rooney's of to Hull. Not sure where he'd get a game though with Long there, and they're love for Richard Horne.

Horne will be playing fullback for Hull next year.
