Partly, but whilst we have Godwin under contract then what's the point in using that cap space. I would like to see an extension until end of season for cover, but I'd like to see someone better next season.

my reading of it was they were waiting to see how quickly he'll be fit again. If he's going to miss 2 months with a foot injury then paying him for that time seems a poor use of monies. If we were going to retain him for next year then you might accept that to keep him in the fold and offer an 18 month contract now.

afaik at this stage their only talking about an extension till end of sesaon. I doubt we're going to bring in anyone else for remainder of season so we might as well use the cap space on rinaldi, whose already integrated into squad and gives us some cover, as let it go to waste by not using it at all.

Apologies if anyone has posted this on another thread, but it says in League Express this week that Rinaldi has had his loan deal extended until the end of July and the club is contemplating whether to offer him a contract for next year "amid rumours that Terry Newton is set to head to Wakefield".

His agent also says other clubs are aware of Julien being out of contract, but they will give the first refusal to Bradford.

depends how you look at it really. for this year ok, but for next year, takes up an overseas trained spot for a player similar age to newton and similar ability, although probably slightly cheaper. prefer rinaldi to likes of obst and drew who have been mentioned but not above diskin who has also been linked to us.

No he doesn't. He's EU born, so to subject him to quotas would be illegal. Harlequins failure to recognise in time is why he is not still there.

as I understand it because he wasnt playing in superleague at time new rules came in ( feb 200icon_cool.gif he cant apply for federation trained, which is what all kolpak players playing in superleague, like semi, can do. As such whilst he isnt full quota he does count as overseas trained. we are allowed 6 overseas next year of which upto 5 can be full quota. at them moment we have signed for next year nero and hall, as full quota players. assuming menzies and BJ stay as well that only leaves us 1 full quota spot and 1 overseas trained spot.

I just can't see the point in it unless we are going to drop one of Deacon or Newton or Godwin because we certainly don't need all as well as Jefferies in the 17.

For the good of the team it surely has to happen soon? How long do you give a player to find his form? He may be our captain but he doesn't deserve his place right now and should be dropped. I dunno whether Rinaldi is our answer at 7 but it has to be worth a try.

I agree with others on here though who have called for Sykes at 6 and BJ at 7 for Hull KR. Sykes has done fairly well at stand off and with Menzies on the right we look stronger defensively.

He is an EU national. He is not allowed to be subject to restrictive employment practices such as nationality based quotas.

We can do what we like to non-EU nationals.

And TBF I see no reason why the French should be discriminated against, given that their player development isn't much less important to the English game than that of English players. We need someone within cooee who can give us a game.

He isn't if he say spent time at an English club in there academy he would be classed as federation trained even though he would still be classed as French. Under the new rules it's where you were trained not where you are from which is a major difference.

When they made French players non-federation it was a big shock for me.

I accept your point, but I can't see the RFL outweighing the European Court in Rinaldi took it that far. If you are French, you have the right to work in the UK without any restrictions, no matter what rules the RFL try to put in place.

Something that they realised with Simon Finnegan when he threatened it.

It's the same system UEFA are introducing in to the champions league and they wouldn't have done anything that could be challenged in court. The case of Finnegan and the Henderson brothers is totally different as they were born in Britian to British parents. But due to cirumstnces out of there control they would have been classed as overseas trained even though in the eyes of the law they were Bits this is why the RFL back tracked.
