| Just got this e-mail from the RFL more back tracking from them.
Quote RFL wrote Non-Federation Trained players who where in the British game before February 2008 may apply to be re-classified as Federation Trained in their final year of their current contract.
Initially this was to allow the player to continue his employment at his present club, this has subsequently been amended and the dispensation is directly awarded to player regardless of him joining a new club.
Although they may apply in their final year it does not come in to force until his contract expires in November of that year.'"

| So, if I understand this right, if we sign a none federation player on a one year deal, provided they were playing in SL before 2008, we don't have to count them on quota? Is that right?

Considering they're all out of contract then I would assume so unless I've misunderstood. I was wondering if the signing of Glenn Hall would limit our search to improve our backs. This amendment would appear to allow us to bring in further players from overseas if necessary. Perhaps not great news for SL in the short term, however there is a definite shortage of talented non quota players right now.

| way i understood original ruling was that if they were playing in super league before feb 2008 then they could apply for non fed trained status but would still count as overseas although not full quota. If its right that they wont cound as overseas at all then this is a massive backtrack by rfl.

'" No i got it in a reply from Graig Spence at the RFL. I'd heard they were thinking of changing the rule so i e-mailed him 3 times before this reply which seems to be a generic one which has gone out to people.

Semi would be non fed trained as he is fiji? ie the old kolpak..morriosn and jefferies would still be classed as overseas trained..evans would be classed as welsh? non fed trained even tho from overseas but cos of ancestry he qualifies.
We could get semi off of our quota we can have 8 non fed trained inc 5 overseas quota..
if we resigned morrison/menzies/jefferies with nero and hall we would be upto our quota we could tho sign 3 non fed trained who havent played over here since pre 2008..we could re sign evans and he wouldnt count as non fed trained.

Nero would count on the pre 2008 rule. He's been here awhile with hudds

Me neither its getting daft now.
Quota/Non-Fed trained? Whats the difference? Are we allowed different numbers of each? I'm really struggling with it.

Nero is overseas quota not non federation trained so he wouldnt count on the rule. Robbie paul would count as federation trained for salford but home grown for us.

I thought Nero had an EU passport, which exempted him from the quota.

No. He was trained by Yoda.
However, I think you'll find James Kirk is federation trained.
And that is the end of the today's geek references

Look we're all world citizens all this buggery about quotas is a load of nonsense, why don't we just get rid of so-called international RL contested by 2 teams and be proud of our club game with the world club challenge acquring extra rounds and more meaning.
No-one could stop Nero's world domination then, except perhaps his own rugby ability?
