Looking bad for Solomona, I feel he has come in for a bit of stick from some quarters but, without a doubt things certainly do happen when he's on the field.
Question : Assuming David has played his last game for the Bulls, do we look to replace him before the end of the season ? Or sit back and wait to see who becomes available ?
Do we replace him with another ball playing forward, or use his freed up salary to sign halfback por centre.
Personally I would like us to replace Solo with a quality loose forward.

Other than terminate his contract under the 26-week rule, a la Tupou, how do we free up the salary cap space?

| Both parties seemed to be resigned to the fact that Solo may have played have played his last game for the Bulls. This is slightly different to the Tupou case in that for all intents and purposes Tupou was going to play again at some stage. Surely if both Solomona and the Bulls can agree he will not play again can't we amicably release him ?

If you were in Solomona's position and someone said "Is there any chance you could leave now and we not pay you the 6 months pay you're still entitled to? (bearing in mind you won't be able to get a job elsewhere in that time)", would you be ok with that?

We certainly can't use Solomona's money because he's never going to accept a release without pay (and rightly so)

| However, I think if the player will not play again this season and is not going to be offered a new contract beyond the end of his curret deal then both the club and player may likely sit down and discuss his release and try for an amicable settlement over wages.
Then again, maybe we won't

Again though, what motivation AT ALL is there for Solomona to accept less money than he is due?

Assuming though that he ISN'T going to get a new playing contract, he could in theory be de-registered as a player thus freeing up his salary under the cap whilst still paying him his rightful due. No?

| Why would Solomona want to get a release? Personally, I don't think we'll replace him until next season, and i'd rather have a half-back or as steam-pig said possibly a LF. Bad luck for Sol and the club tbf.

No we`d still have to pay his salary, hence salary cap..he wouldnt count on 25 man squad tho so we could get another player onto it.

No. His wage would still be counted. We could de-register him so we can register another player under the 25-man rule (assuming that's even still in place) or if he was counted as a quota player, de-register him so we can have another quota player. However his wage will be counted on the salary cap unless he doesn't get paid them.

| Mark O'Meley has been told he can look for a contract in SL. Quality prop, if we got him we could put Burgess in SR permanently as he seems to play better there.

Correct, and I think what will happen is that he will be released from his Bulls contract at some stage but recieve the full amount he is rightly due. So our salary cap situation won't change this season and I doubt we'll look to replace him with an external signing this year, (assuming we already have some room cap wise) we'll just use the current squad and reserves, we're not exactly short in the back row are we? and look to plan the use of his salary cap on a new signing for next year, hopefully a half back.
Sad way for Solo to bow out with us - dont think we ever saw his full potential, but I cant see any case for offering the guy a new deal and we'll both need to move on next year. Hopefully he'll make a full recovery and get a new club when he does recover.

Didn't we de register Hape once when he was long term injured? Wouldn't this be the same principle albeit it takes him up to the end of his contract?

Yeah. But didn't we just de-register him as a quota player?
Had we de-registered him as a player he would (theoretically) been entitled to sign a playing contract with somebody else wouldn't he?
In this case Solomona will be unable to play for the rest of his playing contract, so, although similar in circumsatnce, it's diferent in consequence.
But, I suppose if, as has been stated, his salary would still count under the playing cap (?) then any such move would be pointless.

Wasn't this the situation that took us over the salary cap as well.
