Deacon definately to miss out and Olibison or Platt to miss out for mine assuming Nero is fully fit he's better in the than Platt dispite how well last weeks starting 13 did.

| Nero is coming back from injury, personally I'd start with Platt, he did OK against Stains.

Don't think anyone was being anti Platt in this thread, Im certainly not, (I posted earlier in the season how he has only made a small number of errors this year and has been unfairly targetted by the boo-boys).
All I'm saying is that as well as Platt did last week, Nero is a better and was playing well before injury. So if he's fully fit (And thats the big if, if there is any doubt stick with Platt) I would rather see Nero in the . As I think Nero is the best at the club (Menzies being primarily a back rower for the sake of this point), not that I dont rate Platts effort last week.

| I would agree with Duckman's sentiments.
Platt looked shaky at centre at Wakey and against Wire, but he did well there last week. However he's still not a centre and is still someone playing out of position. When you have the option of playing 2 centres (Nero & Menzies) who are very comfortable in that position and have been playing very well there, that's the better option to go with.
Platt on the bench would be the best choice as it covers in case of injury to any of the backs, 1-7.

have to agree especially as according to t&a article he was having his session running on his repaired knee at todays training session. If it's taken this long to be able to run on it then theres no way he should be playing at weekend. I'd imagine only reason he's in 19 man squad is partly a matter of mind games and partly on the off chance jeffries picks up a knock in training tomorrow.

| I'm not arguing for the sake of arguing, but Platt, after the Stains game may just be getting a bit confidence back, and starting him on the bench could be the kick in the nuts he doesn't need.

Seems pretty clear-cut to me: Platt did fine at Stains; Nero has been very good but is just coming back from injury.
Platt to start in the centres, Nero on the bench.

seems fair. bring nero on to spell menzies as we really need to stop playing him for full 80.

That was the other alternative I'd wondered about. Key thing though is we surely need to be able to spell Beaver, and not put Nero through the mill too much too early? Probably all depends on whether he brings deacon back an Sykes drops back to the centres. He's the coach, but why change what worked so well last week?

Sykes has had enough time this season to prove he's not a centre, he seems far more comfortable at SO.

It's probably better for Nero to play centre because he's a little bit further out wide defending. Also he won't be excepted to carry the ball as much at centre compered to second row.

Certainly agree with that - I'd assumed that if on the bench he would come on in the centres anyway with Platt covering the backs as needed.

| got the distinct impression that nero could have played last week if needed and we decided to give him the extra weeks recovery rather than risk him in a match we werent realistically expecting to win. As such don't think we need to wrap him in cotton wool too much.

| Just t be clear, this is not meant as a mindless anti-Platt post, but I don't like him at centre. It's not a position that you can just walk into, particularly from FB which is a position that spends less time than any other working in a defensive line and I think he has been found wanting pretty consistently when opposition runs at him. He was OK v Saints but that was probably as much to do with who he was up against - with Gidley out they didn't look to target his side that much.
Id like to see Menzies/Sykes (possibly rotating between there and SO) and Nero there at the moment. Deacs to come back on the bench.

| to be fair it was only platts second start at and he looked much improved from wire game. I'd much rather retain sykes/jeffries combo and use menzies/platt/nero as the in rotation. no place on bench for deacon as rinaldi gives us cover for the halves already. better use of bench spot would be an extra 2nd row alongside the two props who'll be there anyway. Our pack is our strongest asset this year and we should make maximum use of it. We've got a functonal backline now and bar injuries we shouldnt be tinkering every week.
