I don't know about you, but plunge sounds more like buying from a club, not Brett Finch. Leon anybody?

| That article is a load of pants, the writer seems to assume that losing Tupou = we must be going to buy someone.
I don't see that being the case at all.
As for Finch, he seems to have heap of baggage. I'd be reluctant to sign an Australian version of Lee Briers.

That might well be the case, I hope so anyway.

Better than what we've currently got, but I probably have to agree, too mush disruption in the dressing room.

| Whats happening with Nathan Fien, hes got a 3 year deal waiting from Huddersfield maybe we should offer him something, also i belive Ty Williams the winger from the Cowboys has is been chased by 3 super league clubs. Is there any other players available.

tbh a winger isnt exactly top of the priority list at the moment. Fien might be worth a punt but dont think hes available till next season which is when hudds were talking to him for

Neither of them are worth the headlines they are been given in my opinion. Both are the standard players that Super league clubs shouldn't bother with.

| I`d guess the cash we have is current account rather than the capital needed to buy out a contract. Given the attempt for Bird and losing Tupou there is clearly some leeway for strengthening the squad but who`s out of contract at this time of the season?

probably more a case of players who are released for disciplinary reasons or as a result of a new coach coming in and wanting a clear out ala warrington.
what could be interesting this year is the inland revenue clampdown. As adeybull has pointed out on numerous threads any back tax that the revenue deems is owed would count on the salary cap. This means that rich backers wont be able to bail out their clubs by flashing their chequebooks and will have to release players to stay under the cap. This looks like what wire have done with the release of gleason and reardon, with only mathers coming in, freeing up about 100-150k of their cap to pay the taxman. Given that theirs several over clubs also facing a similar situation their could be quite a few players becoming available in next few weeks as clubs affected attempt to balance the books.
An interesting scenario from our point of view would be the following situation. St helens use leons off field problems as a reason to terminate his contract. He gets community service and we re-sign him without having to pay a transfer fee. We get the halve we desperately need. St helens free up the cap space they need to pay the taxman and they already have either wilkin or eastmond who could step into the stand-off role so they wouldnt be significantly weaker on field.

I guess potentially a player at a club in trouble with the cap cos of the HMRC investigations might suddenly find himself being touted around?

It would have to by necessity a UK player rather than an overseas one for several reasons.
Its unlikely that an overseas player with an advantageous legally binding contract would wish to move clubs without the same terms of Salary and benefits (perhaps Image Rights and EBTs)
Accepted that the level of such would be subject to the terms of his original terms of empoyment.
There are probably no SL clubs now who would take on these players and their onerous costs, tax liabilities and potential salary cap breaches.
